Hagel was asked questions designed to illicit criticism of Israel and defense spending among other things that would have effectively killed his nomination. He was further instructed to play nice by The White House. I'm sure he sounds more intelligent under different circumstances.

I sincerely hope so if in fact he is confirmed. But seriously, imagine you are a huge fan of the U.S. team. Is this really the best hire as our defensive coordinator?

Exactly! Hagel was instructed by his White House handlers to disavow everything he had said before. It's pretty hard to sound convincing in an interview when you aren't allowed to say what you really think.

I think you don't know the difference between a foreign nation "controlling" and events "swaying" or influencing the policy of an independent body.
Channging words makes a difference, but when you can't win an argument I guess people like you need to revise or lie. Is that what Christians do? They can lie to heretics because Jesus would apporve of lies for jesus?
