i feel that our team looks like '14 and '15 will be the years we have the best chances of going all the way; that is, if we have good qb play. also, i'm not sold on mett as being the passer that can take us very far and maybe not the leader either. so, i would like to see CC break in other qb's a lot. i really like the kid we signed from georgia and he might really present the opposing D with problems, if he can pass the ball. in any event, i would hate to see mett get all the reps and we have to start the 2014 season with no experience at the helm (again).

I am always perplexed that we never let our backups throw the ball in blowouts

Thanks gramps. Mett will be the starter in 2013. Mett will take the first team reps in the off-season and during the season. Mett will take all game snaps unless he is hurt or we build a very significant lead on an opponent like in 2011.

I think Rivers will get some PT this year and will take a few throws but how many teams bring in their backup QB to start airing it out in a blowout game? It isn't like he is going to have a boatload of attempts.

The Rant dream offense has the Starting QB play the first down and then let whoever is the second string play the rest of the games

Because, you know, the second stringer is always better than the starter. Always.

I don't know that Mett is, or isn't, the leader we need at QB. But, we have definitely lacked at getting our back-ups "meaningful" snaps in game situations for the last few seasons. That's another byproduct of not keeping your foot on the throttle. Sometimes games are closer than they should be and there isn't the opportunity for the back-ups to get in the game. Let's hope that changes as well with the arrival of CC.

So you think in a year with a first time starter and losing a ton from the offense we'll have a better chance?

2013 returns everyone on offense, and a ton of freshman/soph who got quite a bit of meaningful playing time last year on defense. This team looks an awful lot like the 2011 team on paper. People don't realize how young we were on defense last year.

then we will enter the '14 season with zero experience at qb. i hope mett improves his accuracy but i'm not holding my breath.

The most popular man in Louisiana is always either the Lieutenant Governer or the backup qb at LSU.

I don't understand all the negative comments about Mett. The dude was a first year starter. Playing against SEC defenses as a first year guy is pretty damn difficult. And I guess you guys don't remember ALL the dropped passes early in the year.

I for one was not that high on Mett prior to the season when many on this board were basically saying he'll be the next Joe Montana. He actually performed about up to my expectations. And proabably a little better. He'll be just fine.

You might want to check the recent success of 1st year starting QBs. And start with a couple of the National Title teams from the past couple years.

In blowouts I'm all for it. 4th quarter quarterbacks.

Aside from that I want to see Mett throw the vast majority of passes. You may say our team looks like 2014 and 2015 will be the years, but I'm not willing to scrap this year in hopes that those will be our years.

Every year has the potential to be our year. A few plays fall out differently and we could have been in the SEC Championship last year.

Exactly. The SEC is basically 2 steps away from the NFL.

the season hasn't even started yet. i base my opinion on what i saw last year. the guy has zero mobility and a propensity to overthrow way too many receivers. that being said, i didn't advocate benching the guy, i advocated giving another qb some damn game experience. some meaningful playing time. so guys want to break my hip over my opinion; classy.

Id like to see the backup get experience but Mett is the starter and is a very good qb.

That is what happens when a team loses a graduating senior at QB. It is how the game works. Rivers will get some PT this year in some lopsided games, but he won't be throwing the ball much if we are beating someone into submission.

No, we'll enter 2014 with a guy who has 3 years on campus (Rivers), 2 years on campus (Bolden), and two guys with 1 year on campus.

The whole notion of guys needing "game experience" is a joke. Garbage time play against a 1AA team is only marginally different than practice reps. How much game experience did Matt Cassel have the year he took over for Brady. How much game experience did Brady have when he took over for Bledsoe, for that matter.
