Early AL-Only league keepers

We get to keep 5 players, at 3rd year you can extend the player $5/season to however many you want.
Hitters I am considering keeping:
Trout $2 (3rd year, extending)
Middlebrooks $1 (2nd year)
the two that I'm certain of.
Considering:
Josh Reddick $10
Kyle Seager $1
Desmond Jennings $6
Pitchers:
James Shields $18
Brett Anderson $3
Addison Reed $10
Jake Peavy $8
Matt Harrison $8
I'm leaning towards keeping Shields and Reed from that group. Got Reed off waivers midseason but just held onto him with the idea to keep. If he flops, some relievers go for about the same $$ in our league so I'd take the risk and hopefully he doesn't fall apart, and still get a reasonably priced closer.
5th, I've got Seager in there for now since he has SS eligibility and the depth there seems to be weak in general. The rosters have 4 starting OF, a MI & CI. I have other ideas for 2B for the draft, more than I do at SS (last year I kept Peralta; didn't hurt me, I still finished 2nd but Cabrera was also kept by the one who had him the previous year).
Thoughts?

I'd put Jennings in that Trout/Middlebrooks group. I find Brett Anderson very enticing at $3... cheap with a bunch of upside.
For your last pick, it would be Reddick or Shields for me. I'd try to go the trade route first.

I try to keep 1 starting pitcher each year, last year it was Verlander but for $35 I'll just send him back, my reason for keeping Shields (who I got in a trade for Jarrod Parker). Slightly regret it, but still get a quality pitcher for next season.
I wanted to build around the outfield and have Reddick and Trout out there, forgot that I had Seager on the team still. Jennings, I kept him last season also and lucked out getting Trout - I trade Smoak for him, the other guy wanted him or Montero.
So I found Smoak on waivers at year end in an attempt to offer him back to that same guy for something else.
We do have pre-draft trades available, that's how I got Trout. And I've been looking around to make it easier to pick a 5th player, whether it's giving up Anderson for a comparable pitcher with less health issues.
If I had to rank the priority right now of keeping them it looks like this:
Trout
Middlebrooks
Shields
Then from there it was any combination of two:
Anderson
Reed
Reddick
Peavy
Jennings
Harrison
in that order
Not the easiest choice to me. Last year I drafted Sergio Santos, and that really went well. Until June when I picked up Reed I was dead last in saves, at least this would give me a little better chance without paying double or more for someone who may not be the closer in June.
I'm probably going 3 years for Trout, to bump him up to $22, just to have room for someone like Cabrera, Pujols, etc. Appreciate the input. I'm sure my list of what 2 to go with will change many times from now and six weeks. Hopefully none of the top 3 are broken during S/T month. Would be similar to my 2011 season where about half my roster was on DL for long parts of the season.

So no SBs? That throws out Jennings for me.
I think you have it right with Trout, Middlebrooks, and Shields as definites.
Seager and Anderson are ultimate bargains. Seager's eligibility is very beneficial and Anderson has Cy Young stuff

shite. Good eye! SBs do count and I killed in that category last year. Had Jennings, Kinsler, Trout, Ichiro, etc. I think 2nd in that cat. had like 60 less than me.

Id consider Jennings then. He and Trout should provide a nice power/speed/runs combo.
Id throw Seager out for him. He did some damage last year, but had a shite load of ABs and he still plays in Seattle, after all.

I can't see you not justifying keeping Jennings for $6... especially for a closer. Even if he isn't a 20/20 guy, 15/30 is still an great player in a AL only.

Thanks for the help. Convinced me on Jennings over Seager. And I am leaning towards Anderson over Reed too. 1 & 2 in saves were so far ahead of everyone else in our league, and 2 guys punted saves for IP & K stats, so you're really competing for 3-8 with such a small gap between those.
The price for a #1-type starter was anywhere from $25 (Darvish) to $38 (Felix) last year, so I felt that keeping Shields made the best sense, somewhat encouraged by the division he's in now - should have some good K #'s pitching against Cleveland anyway. Anderson for $3 is on average for what a MLB team 's #5 starter goes for in our league.
