So, if he won, he'd be entitled to one years worth of wages of someone who would go in the top 3 of the NFL draft. That's probably over $5 million.

that's the least dumb thing about the article. it's not just about him, it's about future athletes in the same situation.

as someone else said, it's not up to the NCAA

Wasn't part of the original lawsuit. He declared after the original court ruling and the NCAA wouldn't let him back in after it got overturned.

We should get rid of the 3 year rule.

So the NFL can start to draft 17 year old high school senior standouts...then let them get crushed by NFL linebackers in preseason games...all while championing player safety.

IIRC, Williams' problem was that he hired an agent and quit school after he declared.

If he had taken steps to remain eligible if the ruling were reversed, which it was, he could have returned to USC for the next season.

Does the article say that? Cause I don't see that anywhere in the article.

yeah lawyer up against who? The NFL can take whoever they want. Let's just thank God they haven't lowered their age limit to one or two years out of high school.

I agree.

It should be their choice. They shouldn't be forced to wait 3 years after high school. 18-22 is a prime age range for training and performing athletically. Why not let them train with and play with the pros, while getting paid for their efforts and talents?

If a high school senior isn't ready for the NFL, then either A) he wouldn't be drafted or B) a team would give him 2 or 3 years of development (weightlifting, practicing, etc.) before getting significant PT. IMO, no NFL team would intentionally jeopardize a great player's (like Clowney) future by putting him on the field before he was physically/mentally ready.

Just my $.02

The players association agrees to the age limit. It isn't being forced on anyone. The entire membership of the NFLPA was a college football player at one point. If they felt the system, is unfair they could fight for that during CBA negotiations but they haven't.

99.9% of college football underclassmen are not ready for the NFL.

basketball is a different animal. I'd like to see a system where if a guy is a projected lottery pick by most then he can come out after HS or his freshman year. Everyone else has to wait till after their sophomore year.

Oddly enough...this is what the college game does...for players who will never ever qualify for A).

One player every 4 or 5 years MIGHT fall into the same boat Clowney is in. Changing the rule will sour the quality of football at every level...and changing it for one player who has to risk playing the game he wants to get paid for, is even more foolish.

Don't effect thousands of kids to protect one man. Tell his arse to ride pine until the draft if he's so worried about his health.

Its not the NCAA's rule, it's the NFL's. The rule was challanged less than a decade ago and the courts ruled in the NFL's favor. Maybe Michael Silver should do some research.

As a side note, why is there this sudden obsession with the media fretting over the posibility of Clowney getting hurt? Short of a neck inujury, which is extremely, extremely rare, what injury could he suffer that would end his career? Sam Bradford got hurt, twice, his last season at OU. Unlike Clowney he was draft eligible, and it did not hurt his draft position
