Which one is the better option this year. I'm leaning Jazz.

Music wise, Jazz.
Total experience, hangout.
I love drinking beer on the beach while looking at half naked chicks.

Ha I'm struggling with this question as well.
If I didn't want to see Alt-J so damn bad I could at least eliminate one.

Jazz by a mile
Although Buku does have a leg up on the rest of them in the drugs/partying area

They were there, but you definitely had to look for them. Compared to a lot of festivals I've been to, Hangout was pretty tame drug-wise.
edit: I meant 2011, not 2010

I will be buying my tickets to jazzfest soon. I want to go to the first sunday, the 28th because I really want to see Dave live, plus I hear Better Than Ezra puts on a great show. Anybody know if any of the other groups playing that day are going to suprise me?

Thats what I was thinking. My buddies want me to go, but aside form Kendrick Lamar, I really dont want to spend the money to hear computers.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy electronic music, but I wouldn't pay $160+ for a 2 day festival. The lineup doesn't really do it for me either though.
I know Buku lost a shite ton of money last year, but i guess thats what you get for making it the weekend before the biggest electronic music festival in the US.

I'm already going to buku because 2 nights in Nola is infinitely cheaper than a condo. But if I have the spare money, I'll go to hangout simply for The Shins.
Jazz fest has huge acts all of which aren't my type lol. So I'll be sitting that out unless I decide to go in a Sunday when I'm off work

Jazz Fest, the actual fest coupled with the legendary late nights, is by far the best

already have tickets and a place to stay for Hangout. Hoping to go to Buku Fest. Skipping Jazz Fest this year. My only negative thing about Jazz Fest is how fricking hot it is out there, with no breeze. At least with hangout, you have a breeze off the gulf, misters around the area, fans, and you can walk around in your swimsuit and not feel self conscious about it.
