| When are the Republicans going to get a candidate with swagger / confidence? (Posted on 2/12/13 at 9:59 pm)
The most effective trait a politician can have is to act cool, calm, collected, and in charge. Somebody who exudes confidence. Obama is the nerdiest nerd of all-time, yet he walks and talks like he owns the place. A politician can say the dumbest shit, but if he acts like Mr. Cool, people gravitate towards him. That is one area that Obama is very good in. Republicans... or politicians in general can learn a thing or two by watching the mannerisms of movie star-types. Like Denzel Washington. They spend a bunch of money and time doing things like whitening their teeth, getting expensive suits and haircuts, and using certain body language... but they all look like nerdy robots.

Some truth to this. Mitt was a douche. McCain was old and broken. Bush def. had some swag, especially when compared to John fricking Kerry. Bill was Bill. HW was probably the last nerdy looking President we had.

Part of this reason this country is going to shite. People would rather elect somebody with style and no substance than somebody with substance and no style.

That is very true. But it's how it is and there is no sense bitching about it. It's just human nature. They need to embrace it and do something about it.

televised elections have totally fricked the electoral process.

Part of the problem for conservative/republicans is they have to face media scrutiny as soon as they announce they are running for president. The media dug up anything and everything they could find on Sarah Palin overnight, but we still don't know about Obama. Dems have a certain amount of protection from the media. Republicans have to be willing for every little aspect of their personal life to be scrutinized by the media. There are very FEW people who could with stand that type of public scrutiny. There are plenty of republicans capable of running, but just do not want to put their families in that situation.

You're saying "swag" like I think a politician should act like a rapper.

Let me ask you this Bigapple......24 hours after Chris Dorner was linked with the killings in LA, his former college football coach was interviewed by the national media. How many of Obama's former professors or classmates were interviewed DURING his campaign for President?

Perhaps we've reached the point that we need more than one leader. Maybe we should elect a military man for military issues that works along side a CEO that handles the business issues.

I realize what you're saying. But it's not as if these other guys lack confidence. What you're actually saying is that Obama is just so cool, even though he's a nerd like most of the other guys.

I'm not saying they lack confidence. I'm saying they don't project it like Obama. Obama is a nerd with his mom jeans and terrible sense of style, but he's thought of as cool because of his demeanor, swagger, or whatever you want to call it.

Actually, very relevant. Younger kids aren't concerned with important issues such as the economy, unemployment, national defense. Instead they'd rather focus on how "cool" someone looks while that president is ensuring them they will not have a job
