| Echo chambers in political thought... (Posted on 2/7/13 at 11:52 pm)
Why do people try so hard to avoid really seeing what the other side thinks?

This is a good place to ask this.

Most of the public, including you and I seek out information that confirms our bias. It's much more fun to exaggerate than try to understand.

While this is true, we can't avoid our sub conscience, it's another thing entirely to make no effort to avoid this. I'm sure you try and avoid pandering to your bias'. Which is what I am eluding to when I say this board is a great place to ask this.

Any political board is a great place to find examples. Go visit the Kos, or DU. Most are here to argue, not find information. I would bet most here and on other message boards hate the other side more than they actually care about truth, whatever that is in a political sense. Message boards are for picking sides and arguing or agreeing with your kind, not getting accurate information. Just the way they are.

CT is actually a good example of this here. Guy really makes a lot of sense with his middle east stances. People just literally refuse to even give it unbiased thought though before writing him off as an anti jew hitler nut hugger

I don't know? Why do the people on here that promote abortion keep spouting the same mantra," it's a woman's body and she has the right to do what she wants with it"?

We know what they think, FT...and oppose it. Two great ideas, diametrically opposed, battling for political supremeacy. Central Planned Economy vs. Individual (economic) Freedom.

I read the NYT and USA Today every day at Starbucks. The only section I don't read is ARTS in the NYT. I'm not into ballet dancing.

I read the OT. It's very well rounded.

I have come to the conclusion that the liberals don't want to do anything but defend Obama hands down no matter what. IRL liberals I speak to are disgusted with Obama. See the paid cyber blogger thread. I think we have a mix of these and a mix of people that put liberalism before country. I have challenged liberals on here many times to admit both political parties need to all go. I can say this they can't. Why?
