“It’s important to recruit well, but it’s not the only thing,” said Spurrier, who’s guided the Gamecocks to back-to-back top-10 finishes in the final polls.

“I tell people all the time that we’re never going to out-recruit Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and a lot of those schools, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to always beat us. Shoot, we’ve been beating them more than they’ve been beating us lately.

“So, yeah, it’s important, but it’s what they do after they get here that counts.”

Going back to the 2010 season, South Carolina is a combined 9-2 against Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee -- the teams the Gamecocks are “never going to out-recruit.” And if you throw in-state rival Clemson into that mix, the Gamecocks are 12-2.

Has he beaten LSU more while at SC?

He's 0 for his last 3 against LSU. 2012, 2008, 2007

He's just justifying having a lower ranked recruiting class by implying that his coaching is superior and can overcome it. No problem in selling that idea.

We are 1-0 against them since 2010, the other loss is to Florida. They both happened this year.

LOL, totally forget that USCe has beaten UGA 3 years in a row

Rex Grossman was the QB the last time Spurrier beat LSU.

Why did he have to go on to the NFL and make this sound like a bad thing for us

I have to give him credit. If he had Saban players he would have won NCs even with playing SC schedule, not Alabama schedule.

The head ball coach hates to recruit. If he actually put some effort into it, he would have won a league title or two at USCe by now.
