It was. Just look at the Advocate article, which quotes a member of the BR city council as saying, "There was a lot of pressure from the union to get rid of him because he got rid of the good-old-boy era".
Then from a different member of the city council: "He did ruffle some feathers in the union."
Those 2 quotes say it all. Kip, like most Democrat politicians, is scared to death of public service unions.

I only heard a single ad run during the election in support of Kip (it played several times but the same ad), and three different public sector unions sponsored it.

Police Union never liked him and Kip doesn't have to worry about white voters in any possible runoff scenarios anymore.

I don't live in BR, but I'm here often. Seemed like White was doing a good job. I would be displeased.

I was not aware of a strong "police union" in LA. The LA cops I talk to regularly explain to me they are at the mercy of their chief/sheriff. Any insight is appreciated.

Baton Rouge's police union is pretty powerful, unfortunately. Especially so given their support of the current mayor.

Yep. And unfortunately the answer is that Baton Rouge politics is so backwards that when we actually had a good man trying to do the right thing in a leadership role he didn't stand a chance.

I agree with this; however, in this case they were just pointing a camera at a veteran BR cop and letting him talk. Kind of hard to screw that up. And his quote was something like "the mayor and the union have gotten too close."

Murder rate up. Arrests down 38%. Less officers on the street at any given time. The number issue identified by both the candidates and constituents during the 2012 Mayoral election---violent crime. His lawyer said it today "he refused to be micro managed". Sounds like the boss tried to tell him to make some changes to fix violent crime in the city and he did not want to be "micro managed". When it all comes out, people will be asking why didn't he fire him sooner. The union B S is a desperate man's attempt to salvage his reputation.
