Relatively low state and local taxes and cost of living are helping to make New Orleans a magnet for business start-ups and young college graduates—what Seattle or Austin were in other recent decades. I bet N.O. is putting on one helluva show this weekend. Super Gras! So glad the weather is cooperating. I can't imagine the people there aren't having a blast.

I heard the Super Bowl brings $500 million with it. That is some damn good money coming in. Just hope it stays here a while. I have noticed from going out down there that there has been a huge, constant influx of teachers and nurses since Katrina, and hasn't slowed down since the original year or two's worth of surge

Bobby Jindal has done a great job in getting businesses to come to Louisiana

Well....
quote:
Louisiana residents set to welcome a record-tying 10th Super Bowl to New Orleans just got another reminder of the botched financing to repair the city’s National Football League stadium after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. The Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District, which the state created in 1966 to operate the Superdome, sold $361 million of debt last week, most of it tax-free. Almost a third of the proceeds went to pay Bank of America Corp. (BAC) to end an interest-rate hedge. Investors such as Nuveen Asset Management bought the securities on the view that the region has recovered from the most expensive hurricane in U.S. history. Yet the deal highlighted how taxpayers’ costs wound up being more than triple the agency’s $44 million share of renovating the stadium, now called the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, where thousands took shelter after the deadly storm. “This is the most expensive addition to a domed stadium in the history of America,” said state Treasurer John Neely Kennedy, based in Baton Rouge, the capital. “It’s been a nightmare. It wasn’t a good deal for the state.”
LINK I'm sure it's a great party....just remember it was an expensive one.

Neither of which are fixable, sadly. At least the city has some hope, which it didn't circa 2005. I'm just glad to see the city successfully showcase what it does best... host great parties.

Even with all its problems though, New Orleans has always been an interesting and unique place. I've always enjoyed visiting there.
