TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran on Saturday unveiled its newest combat jet, a domestically manufactured fighter-bomber that military officials claim can evade radar. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony broadcast on state TV that building the Qaher F-313, or Dominant F-313, shows Iran's will to "conquer scientific peaks." The Qaher is one of several aircraft designs the Iranian military has rolled out since 2007. Tehran has repeatedly claimed to have developed advanced military technologies in recent years, but its claims cannot be independently verified because the country does not release technical details of its arsenals. The Islamic republic launched a self-sufficient military program in the 1980s to compensate for a Western weapons embargo that banned export of military technology and equipment to Iran. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, torpedoes, drones and fighter planes. "Qaher is a fully indigenous aircraft designed and built by our aerospace experts. This is a radar-evading plane that can fly at low altitude, carry weapons, engage enemy aircrafts and land at short airstrips," Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said. Vahidi said advanced materials were used to manufacture the body of the aircraft, making it Iran's best stealth plane.

I love how the stock picture comes with an attachment that would negate any stealth characteristics. And I doubt very seriously they have a true stealth craft. The Russians (The source of most of Iranian hardware) are still 3 years away from fielding their own stealth craft. We are supposed to believe they scooped them? It might have some stealth characteristics, but there is no way it is stealth. And there is no way they can afford to keep more than a handful of token stealth craft due to the upkeep they require.

Don't you have to re-paint a true stealth aircraft with some very expensive shite every 2 or 3 times you fly it?

That thing is stealthy as a turd in a punch bowl. I don't see on stealth attribute in its appearance. They will claim 'stealthiness' by keeping it in a cave somewhere if USAF appears on the scene.

The rather large appendage underneath it renders it as not a whole lot of stealthy.

Stealth characteristics is a very broad phrase. The SR-71 was the first plane to have stealth characteristics, but, no one would claim it to be a stealth craft.

too round and the vertical profile is too tall. The radar system we gave Israel would see that thing 30 seconds after take off.

I don't understand why we stopped selling them stuff. We shoulda just kept selling them planes and tanks and added a kill switch. Kinda like that bait car.

The RCS of the intakes and motor blades would be enough, not to mention the gas guzzler centerline fuel tank.

This is the mess we have made over there. They could be begging other countries for this crap, instead they internalized a lot of the industry. other than the fact that the jet looks tiny, I don't think it has any stealth capability. It is probably already obsolete by powers of ten. It is the principle that matter IMO.

Obviously your joking, but in a way what your saying is why we like to sell old stuff.

No kill switch, but pages and pages of flight profiles and capability data.

Absolutely. We sell them antiquated material and then sell them the maintenance contracts. Essentially gaining legitimate access for the life cycle of the equipment.
