Can someone explain that to me? When the msu big guy got called for 5 seconds towards the end of game. I can't spout off rules for basketball like I can for football

You can't hold or dribble the ball while closely guarded for more than 5 seconds.

Seemed kinda premature to me. I'd have to see the replay though to be definite.

In the NBA you can hold it for the duration of the 24 second clock if you want. College you can't.

Yeah, it's so rarely called these days. I was surprised at the call in that situation.

Oh ok. So when guys let the play clock run and just stand there near half court, they can do that because they are not guarded? If a guy came up and "closely guarded" them, the ref would start counting? I think I get it

also the "clock" for five seconds resets when you start dribbling, and resets again when you stop dribbling.

Right. The defender has to be within 6 feet for the call to be made.

Even if it was 5 seconds I'm stunned they called that in the last minute and would be losing my shite as a Moo St fan.

Yea it didn't feel like 5 seconds there. Also, the moving screen against moo state was "correct" but also kinda ticky tacky. I'll take it though

That was not a well officiated basketball game. As far as I am concerned, the refs owed us from all the bogus calls that went against us throughout the game.

No way it was ticky tacky, it was one of the most blatant moving screens I've seen, even if he mostly whiffed on getting in the way

The defender has to be within 5 feet also.

the calls usually even out, State missing free throws was their way to help out.

Or that horrendous call that fouled out Shavon Coleman and completely bailed Ms. State out on what was going to be a wild missed layup with the play clock running out and instead put them on the line.
