Interesting, I always watch games on mute.
My inlaws quit coming over on Sundays because they
need to hear that mindless banter during a game.
I told them that football should be watched and not listened to.

The average viewer's attention span is getting shorter and shorter, a lack of announcer would only make it harder to be excited watching a random game.

Plus, the "newer" fan and a decent portion of the female population doesn't understand what they are seeing anyway, so commentary is needed.

I wish they would do a whole game mic'd up, sorta like NASCAR with the race headsets.

Good question, I usually watch games on mute. I'll turn it up to hear a penalty explained but other than that, I don't want to hear the insipid commentary.
