I am by no means a recruitnic and have been a detractor of Miles on many occasions, but I would like to extend a hardy congratulations to Miles and the coaching staff for locking up so many great players without the need to wait until NSD to see if they are gonna commit to LSU. (I realize they are not signed, but at least they are committed).

I never remember a recruiting class when we were on the outside looking in and not the true favorite or in the running for a national recruit to announce on NSD.

However, I don't view that as a negative. Miles and Co. locked up a lot of guys early on and throughout the year so we don't have to wait and wonder.

Bravo, Coach Miles and the rest of the coaching staff! Job well done!

I've been following recruiting casually since the Joe McKnight year and I have to say this has been the most stress free and enjoyable year for me and LSU recruiting.

...love this class.

not a negatiger, but you can't win the game in the 3rd quarter. miles had a very, very good class locked up after Beckwith but you have to not only fight but WIN some until the end of the game (NSD). we will have a very good class but could easier get pass up in the rankingS by a couple of team that have/had success in the last 2 weeks before NSD.

Personally, I don't care if we get passed up in the rankings..the rankings are not the end all be all...this class fills every position of need, except safety. I am happy with all of the guys we have. I have a strong feeling these set of men will do big things at LSU..."I ain't got no worries" - Lil Wayne

the rankings and subjective judgements are all we have to go on now. as has been said before, if you can't out-recruit them you will have to out coach them. this year's class is VERY GOOD but it will be in a group of 5 or so top classes and we won't be able to out-talent the top schools (at least until the 2014 class gets here).

no red, look at ohio state and others. they are going to be a powerhouse soon with meyer. they have a great class and not finished yet. I know we don't play them every year but they could stand in the way of an NC in a year or two.

This is a BAD analogy on many levels. For starters you can in fact win a game in the 3rd Q or before. Last, recruiting rankings are not a "game", so how a team "finishes" is nothing but a side show. The objective is to get the best players you can and then win games, not win meaningless praise in Feruary for "winning" the recruiting beauty contest.

JakeFromStateFarm: I don't think we can say "Damn the rankings" or that they don't mean anything, because they do. The rankings create the perception of a program that will continue to be successful, or a program on the rise [Ole Miss], or in the case of an historically good program, one which may be on the decline. Class rankings are important to recruits, current and future. We all know that these stars don't mean the kids will be good, but it's the perception that signing a lot of blue chippers creates inside and outside your program. And let's not forget alum contributions. They want to see those highly ranked classes too.
