The worst Man U team in a while is running away with the league. City is average, Chelsea sucks, Arsenal sucks, Liverpool sucks, Spurs is nothing special. Everton and I guess Man U are the only team performing to an average or above standard.

How can the entire league be so down?

Agree that it's cyclical and because 3 of biggest clubs are in some degree of rebuilding.

The EPL's noteworthy strength when it's considered the strongest league is simply that it has recently boasted 5 clubs that are among the biggest 10 or so in Europe (along with Barca, Real, Juve, Inter, AC Milan, Bayern and PSG now threatening to join this group).

When 4/5 of those are at close to historical strength then the league is usually the strongest at the top but the EPL has never seemed to me particularly deep in quality mid-table teams compared to other top leagues.

The potential of these biggest EPL clubs probably means the cycle swings back in the near future (like with Juve now).

However, other top leagues have more clubs that are comparable to Tottenham in overall strength/outlook.

Right now a lot of that tier are as good or better than the usual EPL stalwarts: Dortmund and maybe a couple of other German clubs?, Napoli, Roma, Fiorentina, Valencia, Malaga, Lazio, Atletico Madrid etc etc. This isn't to mention that France, Portugal etc usually has some teams around this level.

In fact, if you staged a tourney of ties between 1-20 in league tables right now, I can't see much reason to argue that any league out of EPL, La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga would be more or less likely to win a majority of those.

I'd also be bold enough to ask anyone who thinks otherwise exactly how many matches they've watched from the league they think would do worse.

This should happen.

It would be fun since there's more discussion than ever about the relative strength of leagues but so few CL matches that actually matter between those clubs.

At the very least, I've always thought that CL would be a lot more entertaining if it had more teams from the bigger leagues.

Even if it's just a few more clubs added in the qualifying rounds. To me, it just seems odd that a Napoli or Tottenham or Atletico Madrid isn't in CL when tons of clubs that aren't as good are.

Instead they get "punished" by having to play Europa League where trying to win may mean sacrificing a match in league and missing the CL the next year or being criticized for losing to small teams with half strength squads and fans that half-hope they lose. Just a bad system altogether.

It really would be so easy to set up an 8-16 team tournament. They could do it at the end of the season every other year (non Euro/WC years). It would be at most 3-4 extra games and would make for awesome TV. Could be kinda like the Ryder Cup with captains who select the order of teams or just pick them straight from the table 1-20. I would watch for sure.

How is this true?

It's the best United team since 2009.

They have gotten better in recent weeks but their defense was piss for most of the first half of the season and their midfield is average at best by Man U standards.

The midfield may be average on paper, but they have played really well this season. Defense has been the real weakness so far.

But the midfield has been relatively poor for years now. Especially centre mid. This season Carrick has been outstanding and Cleverly has looked very good in parts. Also, I don't necessarily buy the defense argument. The way United played at the start of the season was the reason that so many goals were conceded. They didn't defend as a team. Individually, Evra and Rafael especially have had very good seasons, and Rio and Evans have been good. Central defense has suffered because there has been no consistency in terms of selection.

Nerlens is now the SB Shitty post enforcer. Shitty posts will be crammed. I posted a gif in the KY section with some odd happenings around.

I vote we just find a GIF of Suarez swatting the shot in the Uruguay/Ghana match.

More topical, IMO LOL FWIW.
