re: FEMA tells Plaquemines Parish that massive insurance rate increases are coming

i think people should be able to live wherever they want, as long as they are aware of the consequences of their decisions, and dont look for a government bailout when bad things happen. i think their should be a program to voluntarily move those people out who want out, as it will be cheaper in the long run.

and yes, diverting large portions of the river is the only sustainable way to reverse our land loss issue.

Look, we all pay taxes and how they are used can be argued till the cows come home. You have to know some of the history of what is going on in Plaquemines parish to understand.

After Katrina the governments focus was on getting people back to Louisiana and offered many incentives to do so. Now fast forward 7 years that same government is leaving these people out to dry. Most people applied and recieved SBA loans to rebuild down there and still owe on those loans. So now not only can people not afford to raise their homes, they can no longer sell them because the government just made them worthless. but not all victims are "rebuilders".

In Jesuit Bend which did not flood for any storm, the people are falling into this map. The average home there cost around 350k as of right now. So people that never had flood damage are going to paying 12-15k per year in flood insurance alone. Now is that right?

The only way a confidence man can take your money is to win your confidence, thus the name. So the good, hard working, individually strong residents of Louisianna who do not need Government intervention in their lives are now howling about that intervention going away. Good for them. WHat we should do is allow the market to work it out....let insurance companies define flood zones.....that would be fun to watch, and those zones would shift and sway like a money maker at Cheetah 3. I say the next step is to stop spending any Corps of Engineers money in New Orleans. I think the good, strong willed, self reliant people of Louisianna should lead the nation by example and completely swear off the pork that they have been feeding on for the last 70 years. Of course they will have to pay back the trillions they took in pork first before they are truly self reliant but I ma sure for producers of this caliber that would be a mere check writing. Then ya'll could truly say "I built that"....BAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

The only thing that should be in Plaq is oil and camps. Move everyone out blow the fricking levees and let that place go back to being what it wants to be, wetlands.

Sad to say, but the best course of action is to blow the levees below Chalmette and let the river run its course. This will replenish the disappearing marsh

I don't see that ever happening because the government does want a mega port down there
