Maybe germans, but I searched so... They're covering her case tonight at 9pm. LINK Didn't know this

Doesn't matter. He lead the police to the body. If he tries to change his plea to not guilty he will face the death penalty.

I'm very curious to see a national news program put an outsider's perspective on it. I moved to Lafayette from Texas right as this was taking place, so it was interesting to have my first impression of a city shaped by such a horrific story and a community's response to it.

perhaps that is his motive in doing so.

How did it shape your thoughts about Lafayette?

I was very nervous about moving to a city in had never been to before (for a new job.) I felt like it would be difficult to feel at home here. And at first it was a bit scary because I live right in the area where Mickey was last seen, and I saw the posters everywhere I went. At restaurants, on poles, on people's cars. But as I lived here longer, it actually made me feel more welcome and that this was a small town mentality in a medium sized city. People care about each other and have a sense of community.

Why is it everything I ever read involving blacks starts off or ends with a comparison to whites and a woe iz us stench? The 2 cases are/were fundamentally different. One has a girl's family actively trying to find their daughter, and her friends excercising a picture perfect example of community mobilization and grassroots effort. The other has family members lieing to the police and extended family being charged with crimes against the missing, and conflicting reports from within the family that make it appear something is being covered up. Both are extremely sad situations, but it's really unfair to even compare the two. Also if you're so concerned about the Felix girl, tell us how many posters have you personally put up for her?

As many as I put up for Mickey Shunik. 0. For the record I don't care about either case. I was just making a point. The Lafayette police and surrounding agencies put a whole lot more attention into the Shunik case than they did for the Felix case. The difference is, the family and friends of the white girl actually care what happened to her.

Because it's the truth, the only reason why this case wasn't more high profile was because the family didn't have the resources that the Shunik's had. It's a shame that the police have to be motivated by community response.

It is called Missing Wealthy White girl syndrome, and it is very real. But how can you blame a family for having more.resources?

I remember when the Shunick case was in full swing, walking into a gas station and overhearing two cashiers say something along the lines of: "They not gone stop til they find that white girl, but they'll never find that missing black girl." "They" being the family, and the community that they rallied behind them, to put pressure on the police to ramp up the search efforts. Meanwhile, these idiots find that it's more beneficial to sit behind a desk and complain that OTHER people aren't doing enough to help find a missing black girl.
