| North Korean parents 'eating their own children' (Posted on 1/28/13 at 7:41 am)
Liberal Utopia
quote:
A starving man in North Korea has been executed after murdering his two children for food, reports from inside the secretive state claim. A 'hidden famine' in the farming provinces of North and South Hwanghae is believed to have killed up to 10,000 people and there are fears that incidents of cannibalism have risen. The grim story is just one to emerge as residents battle starvation after a drought hit farms and shortages were compounded by party officials confiscating food.

According to my friend who has done mission work in plenty Asian shitholes, they are wayyyyy too stupid to revolt. She didn't say it as an insult, just said there's no way they have the mental capacity to figure out how to do it.

If I'm starving to death and some a-holes come and take my food I think even the dumbest among us could figure out how to fight back. Even a dog would try and bite the hand taking away the food bowl

well they're also fricking starving. i doubt they'd do much against the segment of the population who gets some food they'd also be fighting their god if you want some perspective on how your average north korean feels, read the book of Job in the bible

How much history of revolution is there in that part of the world? Could it be a cultural thing?

North Korea and South Korea, twins separated at birth, have provided a wonderful, natural economic experiment pitting state central planning versus free market.
quote:
For the first 25 years after the split, both North and South Korea roughly quadrupled their respective GDPs. But after 1975, North Korea's economy flat-lined for 25 years, then sank back to its 1969 levels. South Korea's economy, however, continued to escalate dramatically. In 2008, South Korea reached a GDP of nearly $1 trillion, compared to North Korea's $25 million. As Arthur Brooks observes in The Road to Freedom: Many socialists in the West believed that the North's Stalinist system of central planning would prove more effective than the South’s market-based approach. We all know how things turned out on the Korean peninsula. Today, North Korea is horribly poor and its people are starving. It also has the distinction of being the least free country in the world. Meanwhile, South Korea is both the thirty-seventh freest country in the world and the thirteenth richest.

The place seems ripe for a Ceaucescu type moment. It just needs the spark.

if you want a fricked up differential in north and south, look at average heights The Height Gap
quote:
He says North Korean men are, on average, between 3 - 8cm (1.2 - 3.1in) shorter than their South Korean counterparts. A difference is also obvious between North and South Korean children. "The height gap is approximately 4cm (1.6in) among pre-school boys and 3cm (1.2in) among pre-school girls, and again the South Koreans would be taller."

Wow. How sad. I am not shocked as last I read about them was their communist leader starved them to the point of eating tree bark. The left, progressive ways are communistic and never fair well in the end.
