Car note

What is a reasonable car note for a 48-60 month loan? I am about a year out of school and really need a new car. I'd like something with very little maintenance for the next 5 years.

How much cash do you have saved up?

If you focus on the note per month, car salesman won't give you the best deal. Just worry about the best deal you can find and you'll be fine. Also big down payment will help with a lower note.

Get a Honda or Toyota, 2-3 years old, pay cash if you can, and drive it till the wheels fall off. I hit 300K on my Toyota this year, last mechanic that looked at says I haven't even broken it in yet, lol. Pay yourself a car payment.

With only a couple of grand to spend, you don't "need" a new car. You want a new car.

If you were to go unemployed, how would you pay for your car note?

I would probably go with a Honda or Toyota, 4-5 years old until you get financially established for a year. You could always upgrade

As many have said save up the cash and by a good used Honda or Toyota. My kids have purchased Civics and Accords in the 6-8K range and driven them for years with few problems. I have bought Toyota trucks with over 100K miles on them and put an additional 100K with no issues.

This. I haven't had a note in years and I have fun on the savings. i.e. I use the money I would have for a note on hookers and blow.
