Asbestos Tile Roof

Wife and I have found a house that we like, not crazy about it, but mainly because the exterior needs some work.
It's about 3000 sq feet and on a great street, though, so I want to give it a longer look. The price is great, and I think I've figured out why: it has an asbestos tile roof.
So it probably needs a new roof anyway. Anyone have any experience getting rid of an asbestos tile roof and putting a new one on? Is it more expensive than just an average roof replacement?

Why that roof has been up there for decades...

I'd call a couple roofers or contractors you trust.

Are you in NOLA or somewhere else?

If you want a roofer to take a look at email me wickowick@gmail.com and I will give you the name of someone that I trust that can look it over...

Thanks, I'll do that. I've never replaced a roof before, was hoping someone on here might have a similar experience

Get some Mexicans from home depot to help you remove the asbestos shingles and dump them somewhere.
Then go get your quotes to put the new roof on.

No need, the shingles can be deposited in a landfill, no extra cost...

I thought you had to pay more for removal and disposal. Have you dealt with this recently?

I am fairly certain they are treated like common construction debris. If they were insulation or something else that is likely to put fibers in the air there are all kinds of regulations...

If they are removed properly and reusable...you can sell them to companies that restore older homes and need the tile to match up spots in roofs.

If u really like the house I would have the roof tested. A lab will test a sample for u for about $300. The last one I had checked came up neg and I would have swore it was asbestos. It was in a high traffic commercial area and the lam flooring tested pos so it was professionally removed. But usually I don't think people check that sort of thing very hard.
