I am in my mid thirties and wonder if it will happen.

Not until big money and lobby is eradicated from our political system. They need control of no more than 2 parties to perpetuate conflict, make more money in the process, and still make it appear to be a democracy.

Only chance is if the EC system is changed. So, a 3rd party won't get elected until we move away from the two party system. Funny how that works.

Any third party will be a split off from the Republicans. We all know what that means. Sayin 'yes mam' to Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton.

The electoral college guarantees a two party system in the general election. Any "third party" has to come through one of the two primaries. But honestly, in most cases if you can't win the primary of the party that more closely matches your beliefs, then you can win a general with those same voters plus the other party. ETA: I would prefer a general election with a runoff as Louisiana does for governor.

We have to see a second party first.

Considering we haven't elected other than a major party President since George Washington, it seems like a long shot.

I'd like to see an instant runoff system where you rank your candidates in order.

No, for many reasons. 1. Legislative seats are not apportioned by % of the vote. 2. In order to receive matching funds, a third party candidate needs 5% of the vote. 3. 3rd party candidates are not included in major debates. 4. Tradition.

Unless the democrats realize that after Obama, the anchor of their party demographics will soon no longer tolerate the nomination of any non-black candidates for president.
