This always seems to be a major pain in the arse to me.

It used to be really easy but now any time I try to open an mp3 file it never works and takes hours before it ever ends up being added to the library. Does anyone else have this issue? It started when they updated the itunes version a few months back.

Using a mac. So frick apple.

And then eventually, the music will play in itunes, but i can't actually find it in the library. It's like they took something that was retard proof and totally f'd it up. Itunes is awful now

I always just drag and drop the music files.
There should also be an option to "copy to iTunes folder when adding to playlist", or something like that. I always have that selected. I then delete the original files so I don't have multiples on my hard drive.

So you have music stored on your computer that you need added to iTunes?

If so, you click on file at the top or the tab next to it. You will see like "Add to Library" or something to that nature. Click on that and then choose the files. It should import it.

That doesnt work either

I mean, I can do it, and it acts like it is importing in the status bar. It goes through all the songs, copying, converting, whatever.

But then they arent there. I can then open them and play them in itunes, but they arent in my library. Its stupid weird

I store my files in a separate folder, then drag them into the iTunes program. Works like a charm.

Same here, drag and drop has never failed.

The OP needs to post a screenshot of his "iTunes library. " that may help us diagnose the problem.

Update:

Im pretty sure the issue was that my computer's SSD was nearly completely full. Ive cleared a few gigs off and now it works perfect instead of taking half a day for them to show up
