What is wrong with me? Why is the B chord so difficult?

Try this variation:

x233xx or even x23300 can work

Can you play bar chords? if so, B shouldn't be any harder than any other bar chord.

Bar chords suck when you are first starting to learn. B and F are some of the toughest common chords to learn when you are first starting out.

Meh, it works for a beginner. I used to use these a lot when I was just starting out. I had a difficult time trying to make the x23332 work.

Another one I found that gets the job done was 799877, 7998xx or 799800.

The barre on 2(the typical B chord) is the proper B chord. Just practice man. Your fingers will get stronger and you will be able to switch two it with the quickness in no time.

I've been playing for 39 years and I still hate F bar chords.

I am good at barre chords like F and B#, but B took way more practice. Most of the time, I just mute the B string when playing a B chord. It makes it a lot easier, imo.

Don't you mean the high E string (the F#)? If you mute the B string (the D#), you're taking out the 3rd, and you're not playing a B chord. You'd be playing a power chord (root and fifth).

I can't hyperextend the distal joint on my ring finger, but I can with the pinkie, and that's what I use for all the A-shape barre chords. Might be easier in general for some people.

No, I mean the B string. Like you said, it then becomes a power chord, but its not a huge sound difference. Ala Lightning Crashes by Live.

Another option....

x99877

Barre the first and second string with the first finger. 2nd finger plays the 3rd string. 4th finger on the 4th string. 3rd finger on the fifth string (also use it to mute the 6th string).

This type of barre chord can also be used to play and F (or any other barre chord for that matter) by moving it down to: x33211

And yeah, barre chords suck to play until you build up strength in your hands/fingers.

Hope that helps!
