| Seau's family sues NFL (Posted on 1/23/13 at 12:04 pm)
LINK What about college, high school and pee wee playgrounds? ETA: What about when he plunged down that 100' cliff in his SUV? Maybe that caused it? Sue the cliff? Sue gravity?

He was one of the worst about using his head in helmet to helmet collisions but it is the "NFL's fault. Just like it's the guns fault for Sandy Hook and not Lanza.

Cant believe they are suing the helmet manufacturer. It is IMPOSSIBLE to design a helmet that will completely prevent head injuries.

with that said, from what I have read his death could have been prevented. I probably think its mostly his families fault.

This is just to get more out of a settlement. There is no way a jury will find the NFL was NOT responsible for some/most of his mental incapacities. C'mon, people.

Yes. He didn't have to shoot himself. My God, it was an evil gun again that did it.

That there is an extensive warning label on all helmets. It clearly tells you that this will not protect you from serious injury or death. IE, NFL players realize the risk. They were not misled by the NFL or by the helmet manufacturer.

This reminds me of Johnny Robinson, ex-LSU star and NFL Hall of Famer with the KC Chiefs. I watched Robinson play safety for the Chiefs at least 50 games in his career. You are taught that the safest way to tackle is with your face to the ball carrier. Lowering the head is dangerous. But Robinson did a 'tuck.' IE, if a 240 pound fullback broke through the line Robinson knew he couldn't make an arm tackle. So he lowered his helmet to an extreme degree. Think chin down to touching your chest. So, instead of hitting the player with the top of the helmet (dangerous) he was hitting the guy with the back of his helmet (not dangerous).

There are implications that they were until very recently....Seau played in the NFL for at least a decade before concussions and their cumulative affects were brought to the attention of everyone (including players). Recently a top rated LB out of UCLA gave up football because of the # of concussions he suffered from - he was aware of the affects of continued play. Would he have made the same decision just 10 years ago? Would these older and retired players have continued playing the game if they knew? I'm not aware of the basis of the suit against the NFL, but if it alleges that the NFL knew the dangers and kept them from the players...they have a problem...Helmet company is the real reach here IMV.

The warning labels have been on helmets for at least 30 years. I'm not sure if the word 'concussion' is on the label. But it does say that you can die which is worse than a concussion.

That's why I said the helmet portion of the suit was most likely a reach.

Unfortunately this has to happen in order for the NFL to wake up on how best to protect players from the large amount of concussions happening in the NFL. Football is a game and should not damage the body to the point of disability and death. I personally think the game needs to revert back to the art of tackling and crack down on hits. The object is to stop the runner, not hurt him.
