I decided before the season I would try a higher velocity shell (Remington Hypersonic) 1700 fps. I ended up using 2 boxes before going back to my ole reliables. I really like the idea of a faster fps but man was i leading the shite out of them so i swiched back to slower fps. i'll practice over this year and hopefully get the lead time down better.

anyone else try something new this year?

another question, someone told me to be careful of the higher fps shells because overuse will break/destroy the enside of your gun. anyone else hear this?

I switched from Kent's to federal blue box because they are slower and I was looking for less noise and recoil. Noticed no different in performance.

Next year I will be sticking to 2 3/4" steel only. The recoil and muzzle blast of 3" shells is more than I want and the shot payloads are the same for some shells.

I tried a box of the Winchester Blindside Hex shot shells this year when I couldn't find another box of Estates in the shot size I wanted. Was really impressed with them. I think I prefer them now.

I tried a box Black Cloud last year and could not seem to hit a duck with them.

Bought a new maxus and a pattern master so since I was spending money I tried some hevi metal 3 1/2 #2. Crunched the ducks. Very impressed I wish I could afford to shoot them everyday.

I know with a pattern master they don't recommend anything faster than 1500 fps.

I shoot a patternmaster also. I recommend trying the federal loads. They are cheap and mine patterns them very well. It's the long range version.

I bought 2 cases of federal blue boxes online for a damn good price

I was pretty happy with results and will probably stick with them based on price

Less than a hundred a case is a damn steal

Cause you're shooting Benelli's and Stoegers.

ETA: In the end, it doesn't really matter. Just be consistent and get some relatively high FPS shells. I shoot Kent's SilverSteel and I like em. A good read/article in the last Delta Waterfowl magazine about the latest improvements and changes in duck loads.

It's an 870. I think the ported choke is my main problem. I hate the ear splitting noise more than anything. It's sooooooooooo loud with high velocity stuff.

I shot an equal number of Kent's and Remington Sportsmans and like the Remingtons much more.

This is what I'll be shooting next year.

I have been on a remington sportsman kick for a while now. They are a pretty solid shell. I also like the fiocchi in the blue box.

They're about 15 or 16 a box. They shoot well out of my Benelli.

Brother and I decided to swap to Kent shells from Winchester, and stick with them all season so we would know if somebody else hunted out blind on the lease.

They worked out pretty well actually, we both liked them.

That is what I have been shooting for the last 3 years. They have never failed to perform. The defeciencies in my limits are clearly my own fault. I have a benelli also
