With Minter leaving u wd think at least 1 of the top 10 ILB's would change his commitment and go to LSU? With what Chavis has done with Sheppard and Minter and probable immediate Playing time in a system that is producing NFL players like crazy;what am i missing? Other than Foster is there anyone else that is showing any interest at all in us at this position? Is it a down year for ILB's this yr or are all the good ones too far away to really consider us or........... would love to hear someone's take on this.

I imagine they can put on a few pounds during the offseason. Remember, some of the LBs are young and are still developing/growing.

And that list does not include Melvin Jones and his measurables.

Not at all. John Chavis' defense doesn't require 250 pound MLBs. SPEED>>>SIZE

With Chavis at DC, this is very likely...and it looks promising to me.

One thing is for damn sure; we are finally full of playermakers at the LB position.

Ronnie Feist is nasty. I look for him to do big things when he gets his full time shot in 2014 after learning from Minter, Barrow, and this Chief guy.

There's a real possibility that Feist could do that this year. He was given plenty of chances last offseason to assert himself but came up a little short. They are still high on him.

He will definitely play a lot of LB this year or move to DE.

I sure hope he doesnt move to DE. I expected big things out of this kid as a recruit as MLB. He was a friggin beast at the Big Cat drill.

Beckwith will be an All-American MLB at LSU.

Mark my words.

Guy is a freak athlete for his size.

I don't know if I see Jones holding onto that starting spot with Lamar Louis and Kwon Alexander having another year in the system..

Sheppard, baker and minter werent over 230lbs before they were starters.

Id assume barrow could add 8 more lbs and be rt around 240.

Then melvin jones will prob play at 260.

Size in college doesnt matter if you are good. Every year people bitch ab the weight of a player, whether it be mingo too small or peterson too heavy for cb. Every offseason we go through this.

I have no inside information on this subject, but I'm just gonna try to read the tea leaves here.

If we go back to August, word out of Summer Camp is that there were 5 linebackers that our defensive staff felt confident in: Minter, TJones, Muncie, Barrow, and Welter. Of course, Jones and Welter were soon declared ineligible (until the bowl game).

But not only did Jones play, but so did Welter (although he did look very rusty - even a little bit lost). But I just don't grasp why Chavis would send him out in a bowl game (where the result is in doubt) if he doesn't have expectations that Welter is going to be a contributor over 2013 and 2014.

Again, I have no inside info, and I also didn't think he looked that hot against Clemson. But until I hear further word, I expect he will be 2nd string at worst.
