Reagan spoke out in support of Soviet dissidents

Has anyone heard peep out of Obama regarding the persecutions of Khodorkovsky, other oligarchs and their employees, Pussy Riot, the murder of journalists or even the anti gay legislation recently passed? Does Obama address Human rights in any meaningful way? Do Russian journalists and gays not count becasue they can't vote Democrat?

Do all administrations really have the same response to tyrants?

quote:

Militant Orthodox activists have attacked members of Russia's embattled gay community protesting against a planned law banning "gay propaganda".

Russia may ban "homosexual propaganda" nationwide

Russia's Parliament is to consider a federal law that makes public events and dissemination of information on the LGBT community to minors punishable by fines of up to $16,000. Lawmakers, officials and Russia's dominant Orthodox church have hailed the law saying it will boost Russia's dwindling birth rates.

Where is Toddy on this, I know he loves him some Obama but why the silence?

Insofar as they pick and choose whom to crow about depending upon the "needs of the moment" yes. Obama should speak out about human rights abuses in Russia, China, and everywhere else. But our chosen boogeymen of the hour are Iran and N. Korea.

Reagan should have spoken out against Saddam and Pinochet, and he shouldn't have had us in bed with Noriega. But he had his evil empire and their acolytes.

So you finally admit all adminstrations are not the same and don't have the same values. They don't all abhor the same evils. Thank you.

This doesn't really seem like this needs a head-of-state public response. I'm sure you can find State Department responses on all of this.

And the words "Pussy Riot" never need be publicly uttered by Obama

I don't think I ever made that point. But to argue that the Soviet Union was not the focus of US defense and foreign policy from the end of WWII through the dissolution of the empire, in all administrations, is wrongheaded.

Really! Why?

Jews got a Presidential response, why not Gays or Orphans?

Sakharov, Bukhovsky and Schransky and other Soviet dissidents got a Presidential response? Why not Russian dissidents?
