| Bloomberg: Profit driven healthcare offers better, safer care (Posted on 1/22/13 at 11:13 am)

Federal tax data show that for-profit hospitals actually provide more charitable care than nonprofits do. Nonprofits performed no better -- in some cases much worse -- than comparable for-profits on safety scores recently assigned by the Leapfrog Group, a health-care research organization. For patients, it’s almost impossible tell the difference between nonprofit and for-profit hospitals.
Provides some evidence for what I consider common sense.

Provides some evidence for what I consider common sense. Common sense and government ideas are diametrically opposed!

Why would they provide different levels of care b/c of their non/for profit status? They are run, essentially, the same way. Variations in quality and effeciency have way more to do with culture and administration than where their "profit" goes. Their revenue cycles are exactly the same. Comparing state/county hospitals to private would be a more apt comparison. Do you think there is a big difference between MD Anderson and Methodist here in Houston simply b/c one is classified as non-profit? No...they are both drowning in money and highly respected for quality care. Not saying the data isn't true, but the connection is a huge reach.
