I remember the last time we got ourselves involved in a war the French were having a tough time fighting.
They cut and ran and made it our problem.

Not sure about Mali, but we have been increasing our presence in West Africa for about 5 years now. West Africa is a huge stop for moving drugs from South America to Europe. Plus there are Islamic militant groups there, who allegedly are in cahoots with the drug lords there to make money.
I wouldnt be surprised to see some kind of kinetic military action there in the next several years.

Looks like its logistical aide in the form of transporting military assets to the region using our C-17s based in Europe.
