well that was premature.

IF a licensed hunter and his unlicensed friend who has a duck dog go hunting together and there is only one gun, and one shooter and one limit of ducks taken by that shooter (the liscenced hunter) is the unlicensed friend illegally hunting for providing the dog and instruction to the dog?

It's only illegal if you get caught

well I am certain I know the answer also but, my FIL who is a conservation agent in MO tells me otherwise.

He also claims that in MO you are expected to have all deer meat out of your freezer at the start of the season otherwise you may have more than legal possession for the current season.

I told him he was crazy on the second one and that any WLF agent trying to enforce that shite at my house better have back up.

I always heard they have A LOT of authority and CAN go into your house and do so.

I think technically, this is correct. Otherwise, why even have the "possession" part of the law?

In texas possession limits are nullified when game is finally processed and in storage.

I would believe so, the license is to "hunt" not "shoot".

This is one of those things that he is actually right about (possession limit includes your freezer) but I would bet money that no one has ever been ticketed for. and if they are checking you out that closely, then they are looking for something much bigger. This would be used more along the lines of them busting an illegal commercial hunting operation with a walk in freezer with thousands of pounds of deer meat, more than catching Joe Bob the recreational fisher with 15 redfish in his freezer

From LDWF website:

quote:

Daily Bag Limits: 1 antlered and 1 antlerless (when legal)
Possession Limit: 3 antlered and 3 antlerless per season

So if I go with a birdwatching buddy duck hunting I alone only use my gun and my ammo and legally shot my limit but he drove us in his truck he is now required to have a license because he participated in the hunt?

absolutely. It is not illegal to go sit in a blind with someone shooting ducks, so logic tells yo hat if that person brought their dog to get your ducks, they would be breaking no laws,

My argument would be that if you are handling the dog, you are participating in the harvesting of migratory water fowl.

I will not that I have not looked at the jurisprudence, but I would say that someone would be stupid to take the chance over a few dollars for a duck stamp.

nope. If you and i went out, killed 6 ducks, and my dog got all of them, i would not need a license for it.
