| Explain to me why you "love" a politician? (Posted on 1/21/13 at 3:29 pm)
I attended the Harvard Law of North Baton Rouge so I have quite a few liberal Facespace friends. To a person, the vast majority have some declaration of love and devotion to the President today on their status. Not pride or support, but love. I respect some politicians. I even think that some seem likeable. But what is the driving factor that causes someone to "love" a politician, a person you have likely never met? Does it speak to the President's cult of personality that so many people don't just support his agenda but profess a sycophantic devotion to him personally? Is it just a symptom of our 24 hour news cycle/reality TV fueled populous, that we feel some personal connection to public figures in general? tl;dr 'Merica

In the case of Obama, it's because he is bringing them big government and more assistance. They actually have a personal benefit in him being there. I respected to the max Reagan, but I never loved him, because my personal livelihood didn't depend on his view of government. The same can't be said for most O supporters. You love someone when either a- they give you shit b- they take revenge on people you hate. In this case, rich people and rural folks.

Yep. There's no nation on this planet where 13 per cent of the population has the other 87 per cent by the balls the way the blacks do in the USA.

I've really been trying to do some self reflection. I am completely fed up with Washington as a whole. But then I see these people that are so blindly happy with President, I start to question if maybe I am just a miserable prick. I mean moreso than is plainly obvious.

Assume that half of that 13 percent vote. a six percent guaranteed piece of the electorate is enough to swing almost any election. In other words, anyone other than a DEM has to have a landslide of epic proportions to overcome that 6% edge. Especially when no journalist has the balls to point out how destructive are the means to secure that edge.

I live in northern CA and see this on a regular basis. These folks sing his praises about everything...Jamie Fox style. I often wonder if I'm the miserable prick because I loathe the guy. btw - sweet username.

Despite what many around the country and on here believe, there are a lot of good ones. Much more so than the bad. My former boss is one of my best friends, and in meeting others they are great people, legislators and leaders. I'd say the only one I "love" is my old boss, but that's because I have a personal relationship with him. But there are a lot of others that I respect a great deal, and not just because of the position. Though I understand that you were talking more so of those that have never met the person they're enamored with.

Delusional shared ideology. They think they have all the answers and that Obama is their enabler. They are wrong on both counts.
