Exactly! None of his views should be a surprise to anyone who read his book My American Journey. In it, he made clear that he thought the Republican party needed to improve on the issue of race. He also discussed the issue of race at the 1996 Republican National Convention which earned him many boos from the crowd. To paraphrase the former NFL football coach Dennis Green, "he is who he said he was".

Therein lies the problem, too many Republicans think that all they have to do is have a few high-level, minority appointments to solve their race problem.

Four star generals are hard to force to do anything at all.
And if he said anything he didn't truly believe, then he is just a typical democrat for sure.

The GOP puts highly qualified blacks into positions far more often than the DEMs do, and not for political reasons.
All the blacks get from DEMs are gerrymandered voting precinct so they can elect certified idiots to congress. Blacks also get looked down on by the DEMs and are used like toilet paper.
You are hauled out every election to go vote for a DEM in exchange for a .40 or a pack of cigs. Then you get to wallow in the ghetto for another cycle.
Conservatives want blacks to earn their own way and not be a net drag on the economy. DEMs celebrate their plantation blacks who they harvest for votes anytime they want them.

And this is why the republicans have trouble with blacks, the fact that you can't even see why what you just wrote is offensive to blacks.

Well they already give free stuff to rural whites via the farm bills, etc.
This idea that only minorities are getting stuff from the government is laughable. It also shows the republican's contempt for these people since they pretend that whites don't get "free stuff"
By the way, the "free stuff", is also known as the services the government provides. If the government didn't provide such things, then there would be no reason for it to exist.

Exactly! Republicans can't figure out why they're having such a hard time appealing to Asains and Jews (two affluent demographic groups), as well as upper-middle class and rich Blacks and Hispanics, but the answer is right in front of them. Remember what Bobby Jindal said, "If we want people to like us, we have to like them first".

How does that logic apply to both?
The reason blacks vote dem is because of LBJ's GS. Asians' and Jews' voting motivations are different.
Hispanics are similar to blacks, but are more invested in immigration.
