You would think it would be common sense, but do LSU alumni chapters get contacted and "activated" when an LSU team plays within a certain vicinity?

Watching the basketball game, it made me think that surely LSU AD contacted the Atlanta chapter to encourage attendance. It should happen for every event in every sport.

Anybody know if this happens?

Fans dont show up for home games. Why would they show up for away games?

Would interested parties not be aware of the game without need for a bat signal?

Alumni chapter powers activate!

I get that the basketball team sucks right now. I'm just saying that for somebody that lives out of state it might be nice to catch any of our teams whenever they are within 50 miles or so. I didn't know whether or not the AD, or TAF, or the Alumni Association was active in promoting that kind of thing, aside from road football games and bowls.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm sure LSU gets a number of "prime" seats behind the bench, for every away game...why not offer these {if not spoken for} to the local alumni group ???
Although they have tried to rev up fan support recently, I'll bet they have not thought about your idea.
As far as away football...don't get me started on the "neutral site money grab games"...they're a big slap in the face to season ticket holders and the B.R. business community ! The current market dictates that LSU admins. can do as they please with the schedule...just don't want to slip up with a couple of "sub par" seasons and see season ticket support rapidly fall off !

I would be amazed if this really doesn't take place.

Generally for away games in basketball and baseball tickets are only allocated to the team for use. That allotment is very small.

If the chapter is interested in attending the game, they would need to go through the home ticket office for a block of tickets, much like any other group who is looking for a large block of tickets. Same thing for individual tickets.

And you nailed it.. Start winning and they will come!

You don't know how to look up the schedule online?

They do not get contacted. Some will buy a block of tickets and try to promote the event but its not always very close. Birmingham is probably the biggest chapter near actual SEC schools outside of Texas and they are still an hour away from Bama and 2 from Auburn. Back when we were really good they showed more interest.

There were plentiful seats available last night. Would have been easy to get a block of tickets through UGA.

I'm a member of TAF and a basketball booster. The football team has an organized fan travel system, through TAF, they have their own travel agent set up. Don't think they contact out of town alumni because they probably don't need to. The fan base is out there all over.

As to the basketball team, I personally have been trying to get some some road trips going for away games. Not a lot of interest so far.
Unfortunately a lot of the bball boosters are pretty elderly and I don't think those guys would travel much, even if our team was playing well.

We need new blood signing up for the Tip Off Club to get road trips going.

I've tried to get the basketball operations involved, but there are many aspects where they can't help. Can't buy blocks of tickets on our behalf, can't give up any tickets provided for player's families, even if they know some may not go.
And sucky as this sounds, they can't even get player's families tickets together in one block either.

I'd love to get 45 ppl committed to go an away game. We can fill a charter bus then and lessen the travel costs.

Interesting. Although, any kind of road trip for basketball would have to be on a Saturday and most likely involve A&M or State. Now, you could try to set up some sort of rivalry thing between us and one school, with a traveling party becoming part of that for both sides. That would maybe spark some interest.
