| Did blue receive a medical redshirt? (Posted on 1/19/13 at 12:00 pm)
I thought he did, but the roster on lsusports.net lists him as a senior.

not sure how quickly the NCAA rules, but the school has to submit documentation. Probably not back yet, there is no reason for him not to get it.

No. Nor will he likely get one if he were to apply. It does not matter anyway. This is his last year at LSU one way or the other.

It certainly wouldn't hurt us to have the option.....not sure he would stay for that extra year anyway, but his situation will be better than ford and ware so he might. I would argue that he could still be our best rb.

You can't apply for a medical until after your senior season. If Blue has a decent season he will go pro anyway so it really don't matter.

Maybe there was just talk about him earning a redshirt because he only participated in the first 3 games of the season? Anyway, it appears that did not happen.

no, that is if you're applying for a 6th year. This is a medical hardship and it is filed after the season, although I think you can file during the season is a return to play is completely out of the question. Of course if the player already has taken a redshirt, the point is moot. I'm sure the paperwork has been filed as he fits the criteria with no problem...played in fewer than 30% of games in first half of season, injury ended season. in addition, it looks like the paperwork is submitted to the conference, not the NCAA

In order to be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete must have competed in at least one contest in the first half of the season, but no more than three contests or 30%, whichever is greater (14.2.4). The total number of contests is calculated by the schedule on the first date of competition. Participation in Conference postseason is counted as one competition. If a student-athlete is unable to compete at all during an entire season because of an injury or illness, the student-athlete may not file for a medical hardship waiver. In this case, the season would be considered a medical redshirt season. If the student-athlete has two or more seasons of medial redshirt because of an injury or illness (or one season of medical redshirt and one season of medical hardship), the Compliance Office can file for an extension of the five-year clock (a sixth year) only after the student-athlete has reached the end of the existing five-year clock.

If he comes back healthy and can stay healthy, he will challenge hill for most touches and i think as versatile as he is he will receive more.
