Thinking about fishing off of Point au Chein Landing next week. Advice?

And I am looking for some advice about where to go. I've never fished over there there. I have a small boat (Boston Whaler) which needs at least 2 feet of water to run. Wanting to fish for reds. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try to fish next to the marina in the main channel with live bait on the bottom. Reds/drums are usually stacked there but not sure if they gonna be there this time of the year. Head out East and go towards the sulfur mines, suppose to be good fishing in the winter months. You can also fish off the main channel around the entrances to small cuts in the marsh. You can usually tear up the reds that way on an outgoing tide with a popping cork. It's an awesome place to fish, especially for reds, but just not to sure about this time of the year. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. My thinking about going now is that I am itching to go over there and look around. (really explains it all) As for the time of year, I figure after a week of sunny days and no rain the salinity will be back up, the water will be more clear than it has been, and the sun will be warming the bottom in the shallows some. I have no idea if this will be enough to excite the fish, but I will never know unless I get out there.

I kayak fish there a lot. There's some good marsh along the south side of island road right by the first bridge. Not too shallow. Lots of good grass. Haven't fished that spot in winter though.

Sorry, but my areas won't be helpful for you with that rig. Usually when I fish PAC, it's out of a canoe or kayak...on purpose.

You can also fish around the dams in the main channel. They hold a lot of bait fish in that area which usually produces some good hauls. I remember last year we started burning them around mid March, but there are so many places to fish in that area that you just have to bounce around or find some moving water. Ill let u know when we start going back in the spring.

I stayed at the PAC Inn one weekend on a fishing trip with friends about 6 years ago. Bobby Buchet ran the place and was the local mayor, game warden, proprietor, fish cleaner, etc. The accommodations at the PAC Inn lacked alot to be desired, but we ha a good time. We didn't catch many fish, had the worst hangover ever in the 100 degree sun, and had a cockroach with a 6" cock on it that shared the room with us.

I didn't leave anything there 6 years ago, and wouldn't return if I did. Others love PAC, but made a vow to myself I'd never return.
