"Insider sources" have reportedly told ANI that the leader of the "Desert Sons for Islamic Justice Movement", a faction based in southern Algeria, named Lamin Beshanab (aka. al-Tahir) was killed during the attempt by the Algerian army to liberate a number of Western hostages.
Killed with him were a number of kidnappers including the leader of the group "Abu al-Baraa al-Jazaeri", and the Mauritanian Abdullah Oul Ehmidah, aka. al-Zarqawi. Sources also allegedly "unveiled the nationalities of its elements who participate in the operation, and they are from Algeria, Egypt, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, and Canada."
