Because he sees those rights as impediments that must be overcome to implement his vision of the post-Obama world.

You can't have American rights in a Kenyan/Socialist State or a Western European State, there are no rights, it's all big Gov't...

Because there are enough red-blooded-born-n-raised Americans talking about their rights all day and everyday. They think rights as 'guaranteed by the Constitution' are more important than principles and responsibility and duty and have an absolute black hole for a filter. Keep in mind these are the same people that have guns solely for hunting, looks, and target practice (even though that 'target' is in the silhouette of a person), and go apes#it when a massacre occurs involving their 'rights'

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I don't think Obama see's himself as a "King" or "Dictator". I think he acts on what is politically expediant and what is emotionally appealing. The country as a whole is to blame. The second the public starts wanting to implement "prevention" tactics to reduce crime (dems) or spying on citizens (repubs) and other such limits on individual freedom the politicians tacitly comply. Remove the tin foil hat, America isn't going to be lost in some blaze of gunfire and revolution. It will be lost by the whimpering agreement of it's citzens.

If you don't like the constitution then why don't you just leave? There are other countries out there that share your vision of a collective society that value "principles/responsibility/duty" over freedom. And since your definition of principles/responsibility/duty is probably a parallel to your vision of a collective centrally planned society, that should make your decision to leave even easier

I adhere to the principles set forth in the Constitution, show responsibility in using those rights, and have a duty as a citizen to bear arms to protect those rights.

The Constitution, while a brilliant collective document in and of itself, is an antiquated piece of history that needs to be overhauled to bring it into the modern world in which we live.

Good thing the founders built in a process for that, it's called an amendment. You should have learned about it in grade school, but judging by this post I don't know if you made it that far

Not that I am a fan of the Constitution (though for probably different reasons), what new modern problems exist that the amendment process could not handle?

And should that be done by an imperial president, activist judges, or by the detailed methods and procedures outlined in the document itself?

You three are right. I change my position .. the constitution isn't the problem; it's our country's strict adherence to and worship of it that hinders society.

Are you suggesting we scrap it all together like a few other idiots on here?

Which portions are such a hindrance? The bicameral legislature? The process for which the executive and judiciary are chosen? Is it the amendments that guarantee no law abridging speech, to ensure that no soldier can live in your home, that you can not be searched or jailed without a warrant, the one that delegates all non-enumerated powers to the people and the states, or one of the other ones? Which of these is so strictly adhered to that we have been unable to progress?

I mostly disagree with our political structure and how we go about selection who is in charge.

Well don't jump right out there with your brilliant plan or anything. So what is your fix for such a horribly broken system?

Unfortunately, this is the portion of the Constitution that is actually followed through with to a 't' - mostly because it does little to constrict government. Would you prefer greater centralization or more localization of laws?
