Savage 111 Scope question

I have a Savage 111 that was bought a couple years ago as a package gun(came with junk Simmons scope). I put a Leupold on it but the neck would not fit on my base. I switched to a one piece base which functions fine but just is an eye sore in my opinion. Anyone have this issue and maybe can recommend a different option??? thanks

when you say the neck would not fit my base, you mean the tube of the scope? which one piece did you get? what exactly is it that you do not like cosmetically about the set up?

Is it a 4-12x50 vx-2? I had the same problem. I tried everything, single base, high/low mounts. I eventually had to settle on high rise mounts and it looked awful. I assume the savage is not made for the shorter 12" scopes. I just sold the scope and went to a 4-12x42 Redfield Revenge.

If you had the weaver style bases on it you could have probably just used extension rings.

I think the base is a weaver one piece. yes, I meant the tube of the scope is too long. Scope is Leupold Vari XII 3X9X40. I have a Redfield Revolution 3X9X40 on another rifle and it wouldn't fit either. It functions fine the way it is....just looks awful in my opinion. Considered offset rings, but heard alot of negatives about the,

I have the same setup from a pawn shop for $165 6 years ago and that Simmons hasn't missed yet!

I you get leupold bases and rings it won't fit?
You obviously care about what your optics are since you spent money on a vxIII. Might as well get some real good rings and bases as well.

I changed the scope because I had to pass on a few deer at last light because the Simmons wouldn't draw enough light. The only reason I used Weaver base and rings is because Cabelas didn't have a Leopold base to match my gun(go figure Cabelas would be out of something!! Lol)
