| Why do ppl bring up gun related suicides? (Posted on 1/17/13 at 6:31 am)
Do you honestly believe if they didn't have access to a gun that they wouldn't still commit suicide? They wouldn't: Take pills Use their car exhaust Walk out in front of a train Jump off a building Cut their wrists Drown themselves Hang themselves The ways in which they could do it are endless. Once they have made up their mind to take that action, gun or not, the deed will be done. To be honest, a gun is the fastest, most humane out of all. I am not condoning it by any means but I just want to know why those statistics are figured into gun deaths and used to help attack gun owners? Is it because if you take that number out, it decreases the amount of gun deaths drastically and hurts the cause?

TBH, a gun is much quicker, efficient and easier than most of those methods. Somebody may be more willing to pull the trigger than something messier and with less likelihood of immediate success. If you have a suicidal person in the house, you're going to lock up or get rid of your guns, as any rational person would do. I'm not a gun grabber by any means, but the pro side would have more credibility by owning up to the fact that there are unique risks associated with them.

Razors can be picked up at any drug store, car exhaust is comforting and convenient and pills can be accidental. Politicians just want us to believe gun risks are more serious because it furthers an agenda.

Who is talking about suicide? Not anyone to be taken seriously. A crack-barrel shotgun is all that is needed to kill yourself. So they would be advocating a ban on ALL guns. Which is a position that impossible to win from. Maybe tougher background checks could reduce chances of an established depressed/suicidal person from buying a gun, but even those chances are small.

Having worked/investigated many suicides, this is not always the case. If they screw up with a gun their last moments on this Earth are insanely gruesome.
