We have 2 cards with really no balance. Both with chase. One is 12.24% and the other is 13.24%. We supposedly have excellent credit. Are these rates worth a shite or should I call up and yell?

Shouldn't carry a balance so it shouldn't matter but those seem par for the course for most cards
I'm still holding on to a BOA card with 5.9 I got about 10 years ago

If you don't carry a balance, why does it matter? That said, some credit unions offer credit cards at around 7%.

Doesn't matter what your rate is if you don't carry a balance month to month

Well I guess, what if we did end up carrying a balance? I got some little home remodels I gotta do that's not really worth getting a home equity line/loan. I probably wouldn't carry the balance long.

You could get a rewards card with an introductory zero rate for 12 months or so

Those are actually good rates for recent cards! I have a great score, and mine are a lot higher than that!

I had one, wife forgot to pay on time a few months ago, shot up to 27%. Tried to get them to lower the rate and they wouldn't. We aren't doing business with Cap1 anymore..........

Those rates are pretty good actually but you shouldn't be carrying over any money. Save up until you can afford to remodel

Skip, if this happened in the past 12 months she's missed multiple payments. By law if you are late on only 1 payment then pay on time w/ in 6 months they cant use the default interest rate.
Also bankrate.com lists the avg interest rate offered if you were in the market for a card today. Most of the rate depends on timing and market prime rates.

10.9 is what both of mine are, use USAA though which is good to us.

You should get a home equity line even if you don't need one. It's good to know that if you really need $20K tomorrow you can get it.
