| Prohibition now... It's for our own good (Posted on 1/16/13 at 4:50 pm)
Just think about how many lives would be saved as a result of banning alcohol, and I think "Yes We Can" do it. Some 10,000 deaths came simply as a result of drunk drivers last year. Now think of all the battered women and children that came at the hands of drunk men. I think we need to give this another try. I think we can do it this time around. What say you? There's not even a bill of rights issue to contend with here. Bring back the 18th.

This would be an interesting period of time if that happened.

When Prohibition was introduced, I hoped that it would be widely supported by public opinion and the day would soon come when the evil effects of alcohol would be recognized. I have slowly and reluctantly come to believe that this has not been the result. Instead, drinking has generally increased; the speakeasy has replaced the saloon; a vast army of lawbreakers has appeared; many of our best citizens have openly ignored Prohibition; respect for the law has been greatly lessened; and crime has increased to a level never seen before. ~. Since I don't drink, I'm all for taking somebody else's freedom away.

It would be amazing to see a major political figure in the country admit this about drug prohibition. I know Ron Paul and a few others have stated something similar but I mean a MAJOR figure like a president or congressional leader.

If alcohol were invented tomorrow, I have no doubt that it would be banned as soon as the first group of teenagers started using it and OD'ing. But to not answer your OP, I don't see how alcohol is legal, while other drugs are not. Even alcohol dependency itself can lead to death.

Heaven forbid we just expect people to take responsibility for themselves. No wait, instead we will just take it away from everyone on the off chance that at some point in their lives they might make a mistake while using it. You might as well ban the use of forks and spoons too because fat people make bad decisions with them everyday that endanger their lives. Worst thread ever!

I'm not sure if we can ban all alcohol, but I support a ban on strong/scary sounding alcohol like whiskey. If you like to drink wine you can continue to drink wine.

What does anyone need 151 everclear for? And those packages with whiskey and shot glasses together is only encouraging misbehavior. Not to mention the scantily clad young women enticing young boys to want to drink.

Anything over 50 proof is ridiculous and not needed in a household. Especially the ones with children.
