I have been watching the Studio Ghibli releases lately and really have enjoyed all of them I have seen. I purchased a box set that included "Grave of the Fireflies" and have yet to watch it. After reading all the comments about the movie, I know it isn't a good idea for my children to watch right now and told my daughter she isn't allowed to watch it.

Everyone agrees that the movie is undoubtedly depressing and nearly no one can get through it without crying. Aside from all of that, nearly all the reviewers still say that this movie is a must see. Anyone here see it yet and is it required viewing?

Depends on how old your kid is. If she's 8, then I think she's old enough to relatively handle it, at least as well as she would at any other age. But its a hard film for anyone to handle. An unbelievably depressing film, but its still incredible. Its the best film that I never want to watch again.

Might say it all. So I guess I need to watch it.

I haven't seen it, but I've seen clips on here, and they all seemed pretty powerful. This is one I eventually need to see.

Yeah you should definitely watch it. Maybe you can decide for yourself afterwards if you think your daughter could handle it.
