Couldn't get close enough to see and it was too busy to get help. Guy took ten seconds to tell me my 226 I had my mind at on was sold and that threw a wrench into everything.

Well that's why you didn't walk out of the store with it. Pick it up and it is unlikely you will give it back.
Most common is the v3 DA/SA trigger with the rear decocker. It has a spured hammer as well. More rare are the v1/2 LEM which have a bobbed hammer and have the same trigger pull each shot.
My .40 is a standard size with the external safety and my 9mm is a L version with no safety. Both are awesome.

I love my 226. Don't have a P30, so I can't compare those two. But I have a do have an HK P7 that is very cool. I think you'll be fine with either one.

My buddy has a p30, and it may is one of the best handguns I've ever shot. My uncle has a 226 and it is a great piece as well. Out of the 2 I'd go p30 though.
