| AR-22 or a Ruger 10-22 tricked out? (Posted on 1/11/13 at 8:57 am)
I know the AR-22's are probably hard to find as well as the other AR's, but I want to buy a .22 just to plink around with and let my son plink stuff with. Suggestions?

What do you mean Ruger 10-22 Tricked out? Are you wanting a tacti-cool Ruger 10-22? I wouldn't waste my money on an AR-22, but that's just my opinion. Ruger 10-22 is a sweet rifle just like it is, but if I did anything to one, I'd put a bull barrel on it. If you really want it to look tacti-cool, get an intrafuse stock or something.

This is just excellent advice. I am looking seriously at the Wal-Mart special 10/22, stainless and composite. If it's accurate out of the box, I'm probably keeping it just like it is. However, there is no platform for which there are more available accessories than the 10/22 (save possibly the AR-15).

In my experience the ruger 10/22 is more dependable than the AR 22 platforms out there.

Can't go wrong with either for plinking. I have a S&W AR-22 and a tricked out 10/22. Just like my kids, I love them both equally. ETA: my AR-22 is just as reliable as my 10/22. Never had it jam.

I've got the 10/22 Takedown. I wish there were more options for it out there right now, but there's not. That said, I can hit 2" plates at 50 yards with iron sights all day long. The regular 10/22's have just about every option you can think of out there.

I've really been wanting to build a 10/22 tack driver. I'm not much on tactical looks so to me, a synthetic stock with a stainless aftermarket barrel, decent scope, and a smooth trigger looks way better than that AR. I'm also a bit of a Ruger loyalist.

Just started my 10/22 build process today. Plain Jane 10/22 and have ordered a Tactical Solutions stainless fluted barrel (thx Josey), & OD Green Hogue stock. My gunsmith says he can do for $70 what a $110 Kidd trigger kit will do. What else am I missing guys?
