I don't think he's elevated himself at all to elite status. He's a very solid/good Left OT though. He's been pretty good and stable in our system. We haven't had to shell out huge money at the tackle position for a good while now. If he left, it would create a pretty big hole in our line. Strief sucks too. Just throwing that out there.

Strief needs to be replaced without question. Bushrod is one that we can live with as long as he is willing to come on the cheap. If he is willing to sign another 2-3 year contract I say keep him around. He will definitely want to see if he can get a long term though.

get paid big bucks. I hope we are able to keep him for a reasonable salary. We could definitely use the money on defense. If he leaves then we better hope that the FO pulls another sleeper OL out of their arse.

Yeah, i'm not sure if we're able to throw all of our baskets in our eggs of Charles Brown just yet or ever.

I think Bushrod stays, hes not elite to where a team will try out bid us for his contract (like Nicks)so we should be able to keep him for a decent price. The good thing is Long and Albert are FA so they will be first evey teams list looking for a LT.

He got $9.8mil for two years in the last deal. He isn't elite but certainly will cost more and at a longer term. I'm guessing he stays. O line continuity is a big deal for sustained success.

Disappointed Brown was injured again. His injury proneness now might be a bigger question mark than his playing ability. He still could pan out but I'm leaning a lot heavier on hope than expectation at this point.

One of the strengths of this club is the cap management by Loomis. This will be a very challenging year for him but his track record speaks for itself. However the LT spot plays out I'm confident it will be the best decision for the team.

There is no doubt that teams in need of a veteran left tackle will be able to pony more bucks than the Saints. In a passing league they are worth the money.
I think Bushrod has to do us a favor to stay as in a one year deal then goes for the last time long term big money deal next year.
Can't imagine the Saints see Brown 180 opposite from the rest of us. Don't see anyone on bench either.
How this plays out will go a long way to determine
our FA dollars.
I think a RT can be found on our bench. I like Marcel Jones to take over.

His agent can make the case that he already did this taking the two year deal after 2010. We're talking a potential $10+mil favor.

The good part is it is one of the best UFA OT markets in a long time. Scheduled to UFA are-
Jake Long
Ryan Clady
Branden Albert
Sebastian Vollmer
Andre Smith
Sam Baker

The problem is both tackle positions. Bushrod is just as bad as whoever we have on the other side. I there is a top 20 pass rusher coming at him, we're often fricked.

I disagree. Bushrod doesn't get enough credit for his production. Focus on penalties negates the attention to his production.

Definitely agree Blu. I don't put the odds very high but its the only way he stays I think. Perhaps the Saints will put top dollar value on him who knows but it would be a surprise to me.

I'll take a holding call to protect Drew's head or knees.

He'll be 29 next year, not too old for one more 4-5 yr deal

He's been relatively healthy too. In 2011 he played more snaps than any other player in the NFL.

I write-off an In Loomis We Trust note on how this shakes out

I didn't realize there were that many UFA OTs this year. That will drive the price down on Bushrod.

However, and I'm not knocking on his production at all cause he's done a good job at LT, but I felt that he should be moved to RT and we go get a LT in the draft this year. What do you all think?

To get a stone cold lock as a starter at LT a 1st round pick is needed. Could happen if Bushrod leaves via FA but most here along with myself hope just about every pick is used for the 32nd ranked def..
