| Emergency Fund question- Do you include PTO/GPT/Vacation as part of that? (Posted on 1/7/13 at 1:45 pm)
Currently, I have 280 hours of banked time. If I got laid off, that amount would be paid to me. Currently, I have 4 months of my salary in Cash. When I add in the 280 hours of banked time, I have 6 months of my salary. Would you include this in your emergency fund calculation?

Good question, I don't count it, simply because I never had that thought before. What are the laws on unused vacation time, PTO or sick time pertaining to the state of Louisiana? Are you sure this has to be paid to you upon departure of employment, whether voluntarily or involuntarily?

I wouldn't count it, but if you have 4 month's of salary saved, you shouldn't need to. I just had 6 month's of expenses, not salary. I assume that should I get fired/laid off/disabled, that the only person looking out for me, is me. Which is why I don't count PTO/GPT/Vacation into my emergency fund equation.
