I don't think so. His dad is an NFL legend and he used to coach at Stanford, if I recall. He's a good west coast recruiter. Chances are that if he is successful he won't be there long.

He's never even been a coordinator. He's a very good recruiter, but he's basically a blank slate in terms of actual coaching. He's kind of the polar opposite of Ault really.

not often you see someone jump from being a special teams coordinator to head coach

LaTech was taking a serious look at Polian before going with Holtz

Good thing for Nevada that lightning always strikes twice.

I live near Reno, its a good hire for the school. They want someone to stay here a long time.

these two things don't go together at all. I like the hire for Nev but if he's successful, Polian will be out the door for sure. Guy is very serious about moving up (which is why he left Stanford for A&M -- he wanted more exposure)

I don't know why people think you have to be a coordinator to become a head coach. The two jobs couldn't be more different.

but didn't harbaugh spend his last year as an assistant coaching DBs?... his background is definitely STs, but he didn't jump directly from ST coordinator to head coach.
