Les Miles 85-21 overall at LSU 47-17 in SEC 5-3 in Bowl Games, 1 National Championship, Played in 1 other national championship, 3 times in conference championship game.

Bob Stoops 86-19 overall at Oklahoma 53-10 in Big 12 4-4 in Bowl Games, 1 National Championship, Played in 2 other national championship games, 5 times in conference championship game.

Stoops has maintained overall success since his first years, winning 10+ games in 5 of 6 seasons since his 8th year at Oklahoma. Even playing in another BCS Championship game since. In 14 seasons as coach he only has 3 seasons in which Oklahoma has failed to win 10 or more games. Is Stoops still an elite coach? Would Tiger nation be ok with LSU and Miles going to same path? (Meaning winning 10+ games yearly, still in Championship hunt yearly, still recruiting strong, etc as Oklahoma could still be considered a Top 5 or 10 program)

No I wouldn't be. No matter where you are in life you always want to be better than you are. I want LSU to be 14-0 every year.

I'm OK with being in the hunt yearly. I am NOT OK with losing/giving games away due to avoidable coaching decisions.

I think reasonable folks would be ok with this level of success. I have been waiting since Cholly Mac for LSU to have that long term coach that keeps them on the winning side of things. Of course there will be questions, and of course there will be disappointments, but as LSU fans, we can still enter every year with the possibility to compete for a national championship. There are not many teams whose fan base can think that way. I'm glad LSU is one of them. If Miles leaves, who then? The next roll of the dice to see what happens? Of the coaches who are successful now, who knew without a doubt, when they took the current job, which would have this success? I can only think of one, and I'm not saying his name. Call me what you will, I'm not ready for Miles to leave just yet.

Bear Bryant Bowl Record: 15-12-2
Tom Osbourne Bowl Record: 12-13

Hmm... they didn't win every game either. I didn't realize how bad these two guys sucked.

Of course we'd want more hardware, but it's a little ridiculous to assume that we (or they) could find someone better. That's why Stoops and Miles are not in any professional jeopardy--in spite of having some frustrating shortcomings at times.

I would be ok with double digit wins each season and being in the hunt for the NC every year...what I don't want is LSU to get into the post season and embarass themselves like they have the last 2 years...or our HC embarass his team and himself...double digit wins during the reg season and winning our bowl game would be an acceptable result.

Honestly, I can take losing a game or two if it isn't because of something transparent and avoidable. You can't win every game. My problem is with the quality or style of play in both the ugly wins and close losses. It's just ugly football most of the time and not fun to watch.

Imagine having 8 games where LSU played well and won using all of our weapons and good coaching. Then add 2 close losses where we also played well but the dice just didn't roll our way. I think most fans could stomach that with a SECCG and NC sandwiched in every couple of three years or so. Now that is an elite program in y book.

In stoops first eight years he had 4 conference titles and has 8 all together. If Miles could do that I think most would be happy.

Everyone does. The real question is...are you truely disappointed when they don't.

I thought of this last night reading OU/A&M game thread, many of same people you see defending Miles were bashing Stoops as over rated (Granted they had just as many who bash Miles also bashing Stoops) and was wondering the mindset of these people.
I understand loyalty towards Miles but you can't claim you want Miles to remain a 10+ win coach every season and in the hunt and then bash a coach that is exactly that. Stoops has more than a few bad losses on his record (what coach doesn't? Even Saban has UAB/ULM) but overall he is still a winning coach who has his team in talk of National Championship each season.

I'm not OK with giving games away in the last 2 minutes. If Les was a top tear coach we would have ended the season with a 11&1 record & be playing for the NC!

The only problem with comparing there records is if les would win 8 conference championships he would be in 8 national championship game and that ain't happening sec has two many teams bama, lsu, Florida will rotate conference and national championships with Georgia, T a&m, and possibly auburn making runs or being a spoiler to the other three teams its not plausible for lsu to have more than three national champion type teams in a decade. Regardless of what people think of bama and the unfairness they receive from scheduling an media bumps they are still doing something very special over the last 4 years

It's not Stoops' record vs Miles' (or any other coach for that matter) that's at issue....it's the repeated buffoonery that seems to center around clock mgmt, 4th qtr game mgmt, and inappropriate play calling.

The loss at Florida was a beating...they simply played better. The losses to Alabama and Clemson were the result of issues listed above.

Sorry, but I'm not buying this. So many people this year are saying we should have beaten Bama and UF and been undefeated. The UF game I can understand being disappointed with, but the fact that we hung with Bama down to the end should be a good thing considering everything we lost from last year.

There is no one on the Rant that will just be OK with a loss. And if someone does post that, they get lambasted because the expectations here are so high. All you need to do is look how disappointed everyone is with being 23-4 over the last two years.

This is as well put as I've seen. It's the stubborness and unwillingness to change and grow that upsets me. And I mean before losses not after. The man definitely needs to read The Art of War.

Of course it's never going to be okay to lose. But the way we lose makes it so much harder to deal with.

Care to quantify that in any way? There will never be a time where losing to anyone is easy to deal with. We could lose to the Patriots by 2 and you'd have some assholes on here whining that Miles blew the game.

You go back and look at even those Oklahoma teams and I am sure their fans could spin it same way as LSU fans can. That 1 or 2 plays, or 1 or 2 coaching decisions changed the complexion of the season.

Les has made his mistakes (as have all coaches since no coach is perfect) but LSU fans (like fans all across the country who are passionate about their team) seem to take it to the next level. Maybe it is the alcohol, being a coonass/redneck part, or maybe it is the minority of idiot LSU fans.

LSU fans should hold Les and the team in a higher standard than normal, we should all want 14-0, but we have to understand that isn't always reasonable. You could say LSU should have beaten Alabama this year, well last year you could have said Alabama should have won. Scoreboard doesn't always tell the story of a game.
