| Builders: Ventless gas fireplaces does it matter where they are located? (Posted on 1/4/13 at 8:44 pm)
More specifically, if there are plans to have it flush against a wall, would it affect the structural integrity of the home to put it in the corner instead. Basically would it have to go back to engineering for approval? My first thought is that it would have nothing to do with the design as it is just a wood frame up to the ceiling with sheet rock around it not supporting anything.

Seen them under counters so I don't think it really matter where they are at.

I hate mine and have read a lot of negative things about them. Do your research, I would personally go with a vented one.

These are spec homes not custom built. They only put in ventless. Would probably just be a glorified decoration.

the structural integrity of the building would not be affected at all...however, you would need to be sure that the specs on the particular fireplace allowed for the type of mounting that you are wanting to do so that there would not be excessive heat buildup... my guess is that there would be no rammifications at all...

Are you looking for one? Think there are a few on here. I did build a treehouse when I was about 13, almost lost a finger cutting a 2x4

I've heard they can lead to a buildup of carbon monoxide and the condensation produced from the burning gas could lead to mold. I'm sure the installation has a lot to do with that.

That's why mine would be a decoration. Something to put under the mantle. I only burn my current wood burning fireplace ~2 times a year anyway.

Probably easier to just build a cutout and put a mantle over it then

We have a ventless in our house but it is flush with the wall. I have seen them in corners before so I don't think it's a problem. I installed mind myself when we built the house. The inside is sheet rocked for fire safety. And I put it on cider blocks. We have slab granite for the hearth and surrounding with a cypress mantle. I say this because the slab granite and the wood mantle does get hot if you put it on high for a long time. We use ours like 3 tImes a year so it's no big deal. If your going to use it alot install a chimney and get a gas one with a vent. Builder told me it would be about $1000 extra for a stucco chimney. Go to Woodburners on ONeal Lane they can help you.

I've read some of that, but didn't think it was prevalent if installed correctly. We're doing the whole foam deal so the house should be tight. Will def. be careful with this, thanks.
