Vampire Academy vs. Twilight

Not sure if this is germans, cause it was pretty big news, but I promise I did a search first and couldn't find it here:
The VAMPIRE ACADEMY movie adaptation is well on its way! Producer Don Murphy is at the helm, with "Heathers" scribe Dan Waters onboard, as well as his brother, "Mean Girls" director Mark Waters.
I know the first question on your minds is, "Will it be able to top the Twilight Saga??? I think there is a damn good chance, and here's why:
1) Bella, while adorable, was far too weak and awkward. While loving her, you also just wanted to punch her sometimes. VA's Rose Hathaway, however, will be one of the strongest female leads in recent memory. As a Dhampir (half human/half Vampire guardian of the Strigoi vampires for those who have forgotten), she is both physically dominant and mentally strong, yet has just enough vulnerability to keep her feminine. And of course, casting will make sure she is hot!
2) Likewise, Edward Cullen was far too much of a wuss. Yes, he had the looks and did possess super-human strength, speed, and agility - as well as his mind-reading abilities, but he too was overtly vulnerable. VA's Dimitri Belikov, Rose's main love interest, is both physically imposing and has a wall of hardness that overrides his vulnerability - both intimidating yet likeable all the same. Unlike Twilight's Edward Cullen, Dimitri will attract the admiration of both male and female audience members. I know it's cliche, but "Girls want him, and guys want to be him." Edward Cullen just couldn't pull that off.
3) They will throw in the typical "love triangle" to hold your interest, but while Adrian Ivashkov will temporarily hold Rose's interest, you always just KNOW in the back of your mind that her heart belongs to Dimitri. In Twilight, while you knew Bella preferred Edward, Taylor Lautner's Jacob was a viable candidate for Bella's affection - especially after the emotional roller coaster Edward put her through. And come one...if you had any doubt that she could ever really go Team Jacob, once he took his shirt off all doubt was removed. While fans can enjoy a good love triangle, having two such viable candidates as Edward and Jacob can really mess with your emotions as a movie fan, and none of us like our heart strings tugged in too many directions. In Vampire Academy, while Adrian is a good distraction for Rose, you know Dimitri is by far always the clear choice. We can enjoy the side show while not getting sucked into the emotional pain of the "loser" of her affections.
I know there are a multitude of other reasons, but I want to leave room for discussion so I'll stop here. Step aside, Hunger Games, there's a new blockbuster series on the way!

Angry Twilight fan, perhaps?
I know you Twihards are a loyal breed - and this is just conjecture because Vampire Academy hasn't even hit the screen yet - but these are very valid points.

This thread is full of awesome.
LsUCIFER, I've never heard of Vampire Academy. School me, please. And I've seen one Twilight movie and it sucked balls, so I hope that doesn't hurt my potential likeability of VA.

please tell me you're a chick and this will all make sense

I am so backing away from this thread. OP is either a genius I don't want to mess with or just something else entirely different that I don't want to mess with.

CocomoLSU,
That's what's so great about the new series - you'll get a chance to get in on the ground floor for this ride. Since you only saw one Twilight movie and didn't like it, I'm sure you caught one of the middle ones and didn't really "get" some of the things in context - porbably New Moon since it was the most emotionally confusing. You were probably confused because it appeared throughout the whole movie that Jacob was the better choice, then in the end (SPOILER ALERT) - Bella goes back to Edward. I can see why this would have angered you if you were Team Jacob, thus making you dislike the movie and refrain from seeing the rest.
If you haven't read the Vampire Academy books, (again - SPOILER ALERT) Rose will have a fling with Adrian when she thinks she lost Dimitri, but even when it appears all odds are against her, she WILL get him back.
So CocomoLSU, if you only catch one of the later movies in the VA series, and you're all Team Adrian like you were Team Jacob for the one Twilight that ruined it for you, you will probably be disappointed. The obvious solution is to see the VA movies from the very start!

And Cocomo,
Your Team Jacob disappointment would have been relieved in the end if you had stuck it out, because (SPOILER ALERT) - in Breaking Dawn 2 Jacob does in fact imprint on Bella's daughter, Renesmee!!! Both Team Edward and you Team Jacob people win out in the end!.

FootballNostradamus,
I'm sorry if I have offended you or other Twihards. I can understand your defensiveness since VA has yet to come out and your "Saga" is not only complete, but a masterpiece love story that surpasses even Titanic. I'm just trying to make a case with valid points. While I can appreciate that I've angered you because it appears that I've dissed your series, that was not my intention. Feel free to discuss, but please do so without vulgarity. And for the record, were you Team Edward or Team Jacob?

This guy has posted in the past of his affinity for tweeny bopper type entertainment (Juno). He may just be a very good troll, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
The twilight type of movie just isn't my bag. I'd probably watch it with a chick. Maybe. I think some girl I know told me about the Vampire Academy books. They sounded like easy, shallow read. That doesn't mean they don't have a place in entertainment. Maybe it'll be better than twilight.

Awesome, thanks!! And I had no team affiliation, but I am familiar with it. Taylr Whatshisface kinda looks like he has Downs Syndrome and Robert Patterson looks like a ghost, so there wasn't much for me to go on as to who was better for Kristen Stewart. I don't know which one I saw, but the Taylor dude took his shirt off a lot, and it was even referenced in the movie I believe, and I remember walking out of there insanely confused as to why these movies were so popular. However, for some weird reason I think KS is ridiculously hot, so all was not lost for me and at least I got to look at her after being dragged to that movie.
And you still never schooled me on what VA is all about. Is it a school where they teach you to be a vampire? So it's like Harry Potter for vampires? And stop spoiling the VA movies for me...I want to know what the series is about, not who ends up with whom and all that. You're gonna ruin it for me!!!lol

Cocomo,
I sincerely apologize if I ruined any of it for you. I guess I should have put "spoilers" in the title instead of just putting it directly before each statement - cause obviously once you read that far I already had you enthralled and you couldn't help but read further. It seems Taylor Lautner's abs made quite an impression on you, and while you're trying to be coy, let's just go ahead and put you on the Team Jacob list.
Vampire Academy, in a vague sense, does capture some of the appeal of both a Harry Potter type environment and a Twilight feel. Aside from humans, their alternative reality world consists of the Moroi, who are mortal vampires who feed only on volunteer human feeders, and they possess some magic related to a personal affinity with one of the elements (fire, water, etc.). The other type of vampires are the Strigoi - immortal, evil vampires with a real taste for human blood and death. A Moroi can become a Strigoi by killing. In between lie the Dhampir, a race of human/Moroi hybrids, with no affinity for blood or magic but strength and agility superior to mere humans. The Dhampir act as the guardians of the peaceful Moroi. There are also Alchemists, who are no fans of the Vamps but have held a testy alliance with them over the centuries and use their skills for "cleanup duty" to help keep their world secret. Thankfully, once the 6 books of the Vampire Academy series were complete, the author came up with a spinoff series with the main Alchemist character, while still involving many of the main characters of the VA series!
Vampire Academy (there are more than one, but the center of attention for this series is St. Vladimir's Academy), is a boarding school for the education of the Moroi and the training of the Dhampir guardians.
Since I've already spoiled it for you, Dimitri is Rose's Dhampir instructor, and love ensues. Despite the requisite love stories, the Vampire Academy series thrives on action, chiefly the battles against the evil Strigoi and some corrupt Moroi. Don't want to spoil any more for you, but that is a brief outline. I'll keep you posted on further updates when the movie is cast, filming starts, release date, etc. !

Are you TulaneLSU's alter?
Y'all sure are an untrustworthy bunch. I was very forthcoming about my identity when I introduced myself here, and I have never posted under any other name. And again, I'm sorry if I upset the mutitude of Twilight fans here with my assertion that Vampire Academy would be superior. Everyone seems awfully defensive here. I'm not saying it will be a top 5 movie of all time like Juno, just that it has the POTENTIAL to surpass "The Saga" in the hearts of classic movie buffs. I do applaud the loyalty to Twilight demonstrated here though - it looks like VA may have a tough hill to climb.

Your either going for a very thought out troll attempt, the new TulaneLSU (or alter), or you're too much of a noob to realize that no one gives a frick about Twilight around here.

Judging from the defensive nature of most of the responses here, the Shakespearean "Methinks thou dost protest too much" comes to mind. Obviously there are more closet Twilight fans here than many of you imagined.
And for the many reasons I mentioned, Vampire Academy will have much more crossover appeal!
And again with the alter thing - from the start people thought I was "Chris" - is that the TulaneLSU person?

Here's a brief TD history lesson for you.
TulaneLSU is quite possibly one of the biggest trolls of TD history. He would type up rather lengthy well thought out critical reviews bashing most movies for their flaws. The only movies he ever gave good ratings for were god aweful. He would always throw in some kind of religious or philosophical references that would make him seemingly go from crazy to bat-shite insane. I can remember in particular that he gave the Justin Beiber movie like an A+ or some bs like that. However, I don't believe anyone ever truly figured out if he was indeed trolling or if that was his true personality - the definition of a great troll.
As for the TD legend that is Chris, well this link is really all that you need to know. Enjoy
